HOORAY! Republicans overwhelmingly pass ban on abortion after 20 weeks – but not all of them!

House Republicans overwhelmingly passed a bill called the “Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act”. According to the bill’s description, it’s a ban on abortions after 20 weeks:

This bill amends the federal criminal code to make it a crime for any person to perform or attempt to perform an abortion if the probable post-fertilization age of the fetus is 20 weeks or more.

And the good news is Trump supports this bill:

There were 234 Republicans that voted for the bill and only 2 who voted against it:

  • Rodney Frelinghuysen from the 11th district of New Jersey
  • Charlie Dent from the 15th district of Pennsylvania

Incidentally, there were 3 Democrats that voted for the bill:

  • Henry Cuellar from the 28th district of Texas
  • Dan Lipinski from the 3rd district of Illinois
  • Collin Peterson from the 7th district of Minnesota

Here’s the full roll call if you want to see it.

Now all we need is for Republicans in the Senate to pass this bill (which could be difficult if 60 votes is required) and then wait for the Supreme Court to rule on it (you know lawsuits are coming) and it will be illegal for abortions on or after 20 weeks. It’s not everything we want but it’s certainly a big step in the right direction.
