House Democrat Adam Smith is getting a lot of coverage from his comments on CNN this morning where he clearly called on Pelosi to stop withholding the impeachment articles from the Senate:
Here what Smith had to say:
“I understand what the Speaker is trying to do…but at the end of the day, just like we control it in the House, Mitch McConnell controls it in the Senate. I think it was perfectly advisable for the Speaker to leverage that to get a better deal – at this point it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. And yes, I think it is time to sent the impeachment to the Senate and let Mitch McConnell be responsible for the fairness of the trial. He ultimately is.”
That was from earlier this morning. But after what I can only imagine was immense pressure put on him by his Democratic colleagues over breaking with Pelosi, Smith turned tail and tweeted that he ‘misspoke’ and now fully supports Pelosi:
I misspoke this morning, I do believe we should do everything we can to force the Senate to have a fair trial. If the Speaker believes that holding on to the articles for a longer time will help force a fair trial in the Senate, then I wholeheartedly support that decision.

I would have loved to been a fly on the wall in the House this morning to hear how angry Pelosi was over Smith’s comments. Given his complete 180, he must’ve gotten the ‘beatdown’ of his life for opposing Pelosi and he’ll never do that again.
