House passes Trump rescissions bill, DOD spending bill

Overnight the House passed President Trump’s budget rescissions bill, which cuts $9 billion out of the budget and fully defends PBS and NPR, among other things.

The vote was very narrow, with 216-213.

Two Republicans voted ‘no’, and one of them was not Thomas Massie. It was Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania and Mike Turner of Ohio.

Trump celebrated the vote overnight:

HOUSE APPROVES NINE BILLION DOLLAR CUTS PACKAGE, INCLUDING ATROCIOUS NPR AND PUBLIC BROADCASTING, WHERE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS A YEAR WERE WASTED. REPUBLICANS HAVE TRIED DOING THIS FOR 40 YEARS, AND FAILED….BUT NO MORE. THIS IS BIG!!!

The House also passed the $832 billion DOD budget bill by a margin of 221-209, with 3 Republicans voting ‘no’ and 5 Democrats voting for the bill.

In this case the Republican ‘no’ votes were Tim Burchett of Tennessee, Thomas Massie of Kentucky, and MTG of Georgia.
