Hurricane Michael got me too…

When Hurricane Michael rolled through the Carolinas as a tropical storm last Thursday, it managed to do enough wind damage to cause at least 600,000 power outages. And I was one of them.

I lost power at around 3:30PM on Thursday and didn’t see it again until yesterday at almost 7PM, which is why I was unable to post articles on Thursday and Friday. Many thanks to SooperMexican for helping out during my absence.

The interesting thing is that I do have a nice Harbor Freight 11,000/13,500 generator that I had installed four years ago. I went out on Friday morning to get it started and the ignition switch was broken. It was working just two weeks ago!

So during my first significant power outage, I wasn’t able to use my expensive generator at all. Total bummer.

But on the plus side, I did have LTE internet access through my iPad and iPhone. And some handy Energizer lanterns from Home Depot meant I didn’t have to sit in the dark like a caveman.

And thanks to Yahoo Sports on my iPad and some portable battery charging blocks, I was able to watch my Cowboys CRUSH the Jaguars yesterday which was glorious! I also watched the Panther game, but that’s a more depressing story.

All in all I made it through 3 days of no power, which is more than I can say for the food in my refrigerator/freezer. Perhaps with a new ignition switch (I ordered two of them!) my generator won’t fail me next time and I won’t have to throw out all of my food.

It’s so nice to have power again!
