This morning Ilhan Omar defended her “Some people who did something” by comparing herself to George W. Bush.
The comparison was to Bush’s comments just days after 9/11 as he stood atop a pile of rubble and declared “I can hear you, the rest of the world hears you, and the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon!”
“The people — and the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon!” President George W. Bush
Was Bush downplaying the terrorist attack?
What if he was a Muslim 🤔 https://t.co/XMazssoD49

She doesn’t even include the full context of his comments, as I showed above. She just chopped up his sentence to suggest she was doing the same thing that Bush did just days after 9/11. And then asks what if Bush were a Muslim who said that?
How dishonest!
This was only days after 9/11 when the country was still trying to wrap their minds around what happened. We were still trying to figure out who’d perpetrated this horrific act on American soil. And Bush was in the midsts of these courageous first responders who were still digging through rubble looking for people that survived, trying to comfort and encourage them as well as the nation as a whole.
Omar made her offensive comments at CAIR while extolling the virtues of a group who’s been found by a court to have supported the terrorist group Hamas in the past.
It’s not even close to the same thing. Not even in the same universe.
Let me just say that her tweet above did not go over well on Twitter as many were outraged.
Here’s a few responses:
Another appalling remark from @IlhanMN A complete absence of compassion for the thousands who died on 9/11 at the hands of Islamist terrorists. https://t.co/XzqmUN3FQ5

What he said was not remotely what you said. Just stop it and apologize. https://t.co/w31Ayfajbf

President Bush made this statement days after World Trade Center was reduced to rubble, as he stood atop the smoking pile. I was there.
We, in FBI, were working to determine involvement in conspiracy, following evidence.
Your false equivalency statement made 17 years later. https://t.co/7rVdgMKo0I

This is the worst example of "what aboutism" I've seen in a long time. The Congresswoman should take a break from Twitter. https://t.co/8GeeVfjceG

wow.. she's truly delusional. He said this before we knew who did it. Then, soon-thereafter, named the disgusting Islamic terrorist organization that committed the murders. Where's your statement against Islamic terrorism? You've said it, right? https://t.co/RlvH5MPL3y

Enough. Stop trying to defend the indefensible. The people of the 13th District have been contacting me all week about how appalled they are about your comments and how disrespectful they were to those who lost their lives on Flight 93. https://t.co/3YaJlCfY93

.@IlhanOmarMN made her remarks at CAIR fundraiser. CAIR is a front for the terrorist group Hamas. https://t.co/6KoGJy23Gq
