Here’s Republican Rep. Chris Stewart defending Hope Hicks from headlines of her admission before Congress that she told “white lies” in order to defend Trump.
He says she was “set up” by the Democrats:
Rep. Chris Stewart describes Hope Hicks' testimony as "nine long hours," referring to the questions about her having ever lied as "just a set-up of this witness…designed to make the headlines" https://t.co/dQilH34gbw pic.twitter.com/N49uQvA2BO

So here’s the thing. It all depends on the context. If they asked that question, got the “white lies” answer and moved on, then yes, it was likely just to grab headlines. If they got the answer, pressed her for examples, and she came up with something incriminating, then that’s newsworthy. Otherwise, this is all the same pattern of accusations without substance. Given that nothing else has leaked from Hicks’ testimony, I’m partial to thinking there’s nothing here. But I’m TOTALLY open to Mueller changing my mind in the future….
