“I don’t yet understand where this burden is.”
Tapper asks point blank if a religious person under the Arizona law would be able to refuse to medically treat someone who is a homosexual. His guest, State Rep. John Kavanagh, answers that no, a person could not, in fact, do that. To which Tapper asks, apparently mystified, “where is the line?” Meaning the line that Kavanagh just finished explaining very clearly.
Really? Well I can point at a forest but I can’t make you see the trees. The difference not only couldn’t be more self-evidently plain, it is explained in detail and fully by his guest. *shrug* I guess the Moral Certitude of American liberalism is just as blind as justice, and twice as deaf.
Kavanagh points out that lawmakers made it harder for somebody to “hide behind this law.” Tapper then finishes his interview by saying “obviously your opponents disagree with your sentiment.” His opponents disagree?? You don’t say!!?? It’s a good thing Tapper pointed out that relevant and non-obvious tidbit.
Tapper is normally fairly objective for a CNN host, and generally a responsible journalist. I have praised his work before and no doubt will again. But in this case it seems a bit of the incredulous and offended liberal seeped out.
There are some issues on which there will never be an ally in the mainstream press. Anything other than absolute capitulation on the part of religious groups and individuals on the matter of gay marriage will without fail be met with barely concealed contempt. The line that Tapper asks about will remain something that the MSM will simply choose not to see.
