Jen Psaki was grilled today on why the US would buy Russian oil and not expand our own domestic oil and gas production and she made every excuse in the book for what there’s nothing they can do about it.

Can’t build the Keystone Pipeline because that would take too long. Can’t expand energy production because rich oil companies already have leases they aren’t using. We only import 10% of Russian oil so no big deal. Geez.
Psaki had just said that Biden was doing everything he could to lower gas prices, but clearly not!
Psaki says Biden is “gonna do everything” he can to “reduce the impact” of high gas prices.

She also pointed out that the US has no ‘strategic interest’ in reducing the oil supply, ergo they are going to keep buying Putin’s oil.
Psaki says we have no "strategic interest" in banning imports on Russian oil.

The problem is the administration’s war on oil and gas has put them in a political bind. If they had been increasing production as Trump was doing, they’d have no problem halting our purchases of Russian oil. Plus it’s the right thing to do because of the invasion.
But because their own policies have caused gas prices to nearly double, they are forced to keep buying Putin’s oil to keep prices from going up further because, you know, there’s an election coming up this year. It’s all bad politics at the end of the day for them.
