Jim Moran: Republicans won in 2010 because Americans don’t want a black President

Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA) was interview by an Arab network called Alhurra. He was asked about why the Democrats lost so many seats and he responded:

“It [the Republican successes in the 2010 elections] happened for the same reason the Civil War happened in the United States. It happened because the Southern states, the slaveholding states, didn’t want to see a president who was opposed to slavery.

“In this case, I believe, a lot of people in the United States don’t want to be governed by an African-Amerian, particularly one who is liberal, who wants to spend money and who wants to reach out to include everyone in our society….”

Here’s the video. There is an arabic translator but you can make out some of what he says. This particular part comes around 2:50.

  1. The irony is that it was the democrats before, during, and after the Civil War that were the ones interested in maintaining slavery. The Ku Klux Klan killed thousands of blacks and whites to prevent them from voting republican. Just sayin’….

  2. He is partially right, America voted against liberals spending our grand kid’s future with nothing to show for all the money thrown into the political payback hole. Giving out rights to every subdivision of society like Halloween candy. We also voted against ignorance to the infinite power, not unlike that exhibited by Rep Moran. As far as the race card injection white people got BO into office even though 98% of the black vote went to Obama, their vote alone could not have gotten him even close to the office. When is this nitwit up for re-election?,… he looks like a good one to get out of our “the peoples” house.

  3. Uh. Wow. I’m from the south and I can tell you this guy does NOT speak for all of us. I know you’ve heard this already, but when people can’t win on policy, we’re already well aware that they’re just going to stoop to this kind of disgusting accusation.

Racism, and flippant accusations of it, is despicable. This man needs a new job.

  4. We call this asshat Jim Moron. He is an idiot, always has been, and always will be.
He is one of those that you wonder how does he keep getting re-elected.

  5. Does one have to live in a delusional world to be a democrat? The sad thing is that this man is a US Senator. He isn’t fit to be a street sweeper.

    1. What does it say that the already existing tea parties weren’t good enough that the blacks had to create their own?

I’ve seen several people of color at various Tea Party events and at The Restoring Honor Rally on 8/28 in D.C.

I’m quite disappointed that now there’s ALSO a BLACK Tea Party vs just the Tea Party.

But, it appears, that’s just me.

  6. What a misstatement of what happened in November. America, if it had a problem with a black president, wouldn’t have elected him in the first place. America’s problem is with his failed policies. The Civil War had nothing to with it.
