JUST IN: Trump’s doctor releases statement explaining why Trump is taking Hydroxychloroquine

Earlier today Trump freaked out the media world when he told them that he had been taking hydroxychloroquine for about two weeks as a preventative measure against catching the coronavirus. Since then the media’s been rife with stories about it, with many on the left claiming that Trump is lying about it. Seriously. I’ve even seen doctors on Fox News decrying the move by Trump to take the drug and to announce it to the country.

In response to the announcement, Trump’s physician and Navy Commander, Doctor Sean P. Conley, released this statement explaining why he prescribed it to Trump:

You can click to make that larger in case it’s too small. But here’s what it says:

As has been previously reported, two weeks ago one of the President's support staff tested positive for COVID-19. The President is in very good health and has remained symptom-free. He receives regular COVID-19 testing, all negative to date.

After numerous discussions he and I had regarding the evidence for and against the use of hydroxychloroquine, we concluded the potential benefit from treatment outweighed the relative risks.

In consultation with our inter-agency partners and subject matter experts around the country, I continue to monitor the myriad studies investigating potential COVID-19 therapies, and I anticipate employing the same shared medical decision making based on the evidence at hand in the future.

Conley’s explanation sounds very reasonable to me.

Re all the people on the left freaking out about it, do they really think Trump’s doctor would allow him to take something that would hurt him? As even Trump has pointed out, the drug has been around for decades upon decades and has been administered to people on the front lines to see if it really does offer protection from the virus. If it were unsafe for healthy people Trump wouldn’t be taking it.
