Justin Amash just got a primary challenger for 2020!

As you all know, Justin Amash attacked both AG Barr and President Trump this weekend, even saying that Trump’s actions constitute an impeachable offense.

Well today, a state representative from Michigan announced a 2020 primary challenge for Amash:

FOX NEWS – Less than 48 hours after GOP Rep. Justin Amash declared that President Trump “engaged in impeachable conduct,” a fellow Republican has vowed to challenge him in the upcoming primary election.

Michigan state Rep. Jim Lower made his intentions known Monday morning, announcing that instead of seeking a third term in the state legislature, he will run against Amash for their party’s nomination for the 2020 election. Amash has served as the representative for Michigan’s Third District since 2011.

“Congressman Justin Amash tweets yesterday calling for President Trump’s impeachment show how out of touch he is with the truth and how out of touch he is with people he represents,” Lower said, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Fox News has reached out to both Lower and Amash’s offices for comment.

Now just to be clear, Rep. Lower was already planning to challenge Amash for his seat in 2020.

But Amash coming out in favor of impeaching Trump made Lower decide to go ahead and declare his candidacy:

Lower, who described himself as “pro-Trump,” said he was already planning to challenge Amash, and was originally going to declare his candidacy on July 4. Amash’s tweets against the president on Saturday inspired Lower to make the announcement sooner, he said. Lower accused Amash of siding with left-wing Democrats against Trump.

“Amash has not only failed to support President Trump as the President works to make the United States stronger and safer, he has now united with radical liberals like Democratic Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib to try and bring down our President,” he said, as reported by WWMT. “He must be replaced and I am going to do it.”

Actually it’s pretty smart of Lower to go ahead and announce his candidacy.

If he hadn’t seized on this huge opening that Amash just gave him, he’d look like a fool for letting such an opportunity pass him by.

I suspect Amash has done great damage to his chances for reelection and there are no doubt many in his district quite disappointed in him. GOP Chariwoman Ronna McDaniel points out that Amash’s district strongly supports Trump.

It wouldn’t surprise me if there ends up being a long line of candidates in Amash’s district trying to take him out, as it looks like the chances of Amash losing are pretty good now.

  1. He can become a lobbyist for China after he loses the primary. It isn’t like not getting re-elected keeps these people out of our government. They just move on to some other position to manipulate our politics.

  2. Yep, kick his a** out for pushing the Democrat Party/Never Trump Russia narrative!! I believe Amash has business deals in China and that is why he decided to take a swipe at POTUS… so much for his “libertarian” steak…

When you have David French and Erik Erickson defending this quisling by pushing the “libertarian,” “conservative” ideals makes you wonder a lot of things…

  3. Well, at least Amash can count on two votes, David French & Erik Erickson.

  4. Not to worry. There’s a “expert” consultant gig waiting for him at CNN or MSNBC. Loyalty to the Party must be rewarded, you know. Especially if that loyalty comes from someone who is supposedly “across the aisle.”

  5. Said the other day Amash should be primaried but didn’t think it would happen this fast. Scoop, did you see the NTs on twitter who want Amash to primary Trump??

  6. Grand Rapids is one of the most conservative large cities in the Midwest. Not downtown, of course, but the neighborhoods and suburbs. Amash could have a tough re-election.

But I’m not sure making it about Trump is the way to primary Amash. Just make it about what an anti-liberty, open borders nutjob he is. Hit him for stabbing Trump in the back, for sure, but make it about those issues.

  9. Amash is one of the more principled people in DC, BUT he’s a libertarian, he’s not a conservative.

I don’t know what he was on about with Barr misleading the public, he summarized the report OK.

About Trump committing impeachable offenses… that is completely up to the Congress to decide, and I respect his decision at least in that area. Though I’m not sure I would agree with it.

    1. What’s so great about libertarianism anyway? They believe in the “free movement of labor” meaning open borders for foreigners to take our jobs.

      1. They’re for open borders… and according to Erik Erikson, Amash is an “originalist?” I doubt Scalia had much in common with Quisling Amash.
