Krauthammer: Boehner letter was ill-advised

Krauthammer says that if Boehner had invited Obama to speak on the night of the GOP debate, then Obama would have looked small. And if they moved the debate forward one hour, then there would be one heck of a response with 8 presidential candidates on stage all criticizing Obama’s speech:

Krauthammer makes an interesting point, but honestly, I am very happy to see Speaker Boehner stand up to the president for a change.

Also, channeling my inner Beck, I’ll admit that I’ve never heard of Stephen Strasburg.

  1. ‘The Turd’ is circling the drain and he knows it. This was ‘MOST DEFINALY’ a move to up stage the GOP Debate. But the Night before, the night of, the night after or a week from Tuesday can not keep afloat the Sinking ( Stinking BO ‘The Muslim Turd’ ) Commie ship.

We are witnessing the coming of a GOP Victory 6 months out from the General Election. So have at it Maxine and Andrea. You are only ‘Putting Out Fire With Gasoline’.

    Americans Rock – Dem/Commies NOT!

  2. hmmm…can see Kraut’s point about Obama ‘going first’…now he’ll get to ‘adjust’ his ‘I’m the ONLY ONE who can save our country!’ speech spewing it the nite AFTER the debate & poke @ the GOP candidates…don’t underestimate this chess match. Obama plays to win, always watch ‘the other hand’…he probably ‘pushed’ for Wed. so he could goad Boehner into saying no, & then point the finger @ the GOP as ‘not caring about jobs’…see Carney’s earlier presser ‘setting it up’ & Alinsky’s rules. It ain’t over…

  3. So, apparently Obama changed his speech to the following night. Call it in the air. Is that good or bad for the GOP or the administration?

  5. Obama reminds me of a high school, no, elementary school kid, with this nonsense. Why does he need a congressional audience? Will he speach be more of the same speech he did after Laabor Day? It won’t be new. I heard @ 9:36 pm that Obama caved and is going to speak Thursday! Boehner did the right thing and it had paid off.

  6. Krauthammer and Fox as a whole has really become an embarrassment. They do a nice job from time to time on certain things, but for the most part they are awful. I noticed the change start a little before the Obama superbowl interview and it has gotten worse since then.

    1. You are right. Does anybody think the slippery downward slope that FOX seems to be on has anything to do with Murdocks problems? Just asking.

    3. Even though I agree and Liked your post, I actually thought and was surprised to watch Chris Wallace RESPECTFULLY interview Ron Paul last Sunday. I thought Chris did a great interview for Dr. Paul. I was shocked, to say the least.

I think Chris Wallace may have actually heard some of the thousands of “Boo!s” that Wallace received at the last debate when he treated Ron Paul with such disrespect and dishonesty. Something has happened to Chris, that’s for sure.

I don’t expect it to last, however. 🙂

  7. Look, Mr Krauthammer (hope you don’t mind me telling you to look), I listened to this rambling appeasement twice and still don’t know what you point is…Well done, you’ve done your job.
Look, Boehner made the correct call for a change, better not flub it Boehner.
I don’t watch Fox news but it’s time for Mr Krauthammer to move to CNN or wherever.

  8. Krauthammer believes in a strong executive power, that’s why he opposes Boehner standing up. In Krauthammer’s neocon world, the President is to be treated like a demigod.

  10. kraut makes one good point…during the debate the repubs could destroy the ego’s yet another job’s plan…the other point about making the one look small…that wont happen because the msm will not allow it.

  11. CK is a fool. Mark Levin has it right. This was a stunt on Obama’s part. This man is a psychiatrist, for heavens sake, but he can’t see Obama is a sociopath.

  12. then there would be one heck of a response with 8 presidential candidates on stage all criticizing Obama’s speech:
    —————
    Not possible.
    Not possible at all.
NBC+Politico will never allow that to happen to their messiah .
The 8 Rs will be kept on the defensive by these dingbats . The Rs will be answering questions about John Wayne and gay marriage and Darwin and global warming and racist TEA party and Elvis and Bush .
This whole format of debate is stupid.

  13. Boehner needs to stop Obama’s wishes at every turn. It’s call the ‘opposition party’ for a reason. In the rare instance Obama does something constructive… never mind. That will never happen.

    1. ZZZACTLY!!!!

I’m not registered Republican to be bi-partisan. Forget bi-partisan!
I’M PARTISAN! AND I’M RIGHT! AND I WANT MY SIDE TO WIN!

      I’m passionate too, BTW.

What surprises me is after the 2010 elections, they still treat the President as relevant. Please!!

Weaker of the House seems a more appropriate title for our current Speaker of the House.

I still can’t believe they played golf together at a time like this in our current economic malaise. Just unbelievable. The Republican Speaker just doesn’t have any idea of his role,… clueless.

  14. No other President or administration would have put the Speaker in this position in the first place. The country is being run by a bunch of juveniles.

  15. Krauthammer, Rove, Will, Bernie Goldberg, David Brooks–all voices from the crypt. Why don’t they lurch on back to the cemetery and turn into dust piles?

  16. All Obama is doing is a campaign speech. This man does not give a damn about anything but re election. He does not give a damn about the economy, the fact that unemployment for blacks is much higher under Obama than Bush, and he just does not care. Why on earth would anyone vote for this guy?

  17. Let’s be honest here… The regime leader’s shrinkage has nothing to do with Boehner. The failed regime leader has earned it on his own. Come to think of it, that’s the legacy of this one-term president.

  20. The arrogance of “THE THUG” has been unquestioned thus far –

Make no mistake – BO is an arrogant thug

I am glad Boehner found a diplomatic way to say – “screw you”

    Enough is enough

By the way – Did you hear about the NEW vehicle the Labor Secretary bought?

She said she bought the car “To show her support for American workers”

THE PROBLEM: The car was made in CANADA ! We pay these dopes??

Don’t bother trying to convert the “ghoul aid” drinkers –

Get out the vote in 2012

  22. I think this is a non-issue in the overall scheme of things. Those of us that are politically aware will know about this petty move, (and it’s been hella fun fodder), but, regardless of when the Obama speech is made, the average American will never know that this power play even took place.

    1. “…the average American will never know that this power play even took place.”

I was thinking the same thing – wish with all my heart it were not so! We need a huge majority of voters wide awake and informed as possible.

      1. Marti17. Isn’t it a shame that the average American can tell you the new entries on Dancing with the Stars but don’t have a clue as to what is happening to our country?

        1. Gino, yes it is a shame that the average citizen has been ‘pacified’ (by whatever) as planned by the progs. Thank God more and more people are becoming aware of what’s really happening due to the ‘new’ media.

I guess I’m just antsy for more people to have their eyes opened.

  24. I’m sick of Krauthammer and all the other “intellectual” so-called conservatives spending their time criticizing our side instead of attacking the enemy…and I do mean enemy.

Nobody cares what the theory is, Mr. Krauthammer. The results of following establishment advice are residing at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue as we speak.

  25. Let Krauthammer take responsibility for his remarks. I remember a campaign several years ago for everyone to sign and take responsibility for his or her work. Fine Krauthammer has spoken. Now to the genius of Boehner. First, in order for the President to speak to a joint session, he must be invited. For him to speak in the house chamber, he must be invited by the speaker of the house, not just decide by decree that he will speak there. Mr. Boehner, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States of America has invited POTUS to speak on Thursday night. Oh, the opening night of the NFL in the United States of America? How coincidental. LOL Go John go. Go John go. GB

  28. There is much to be gained by Boehner doing what he did and that is bolstering the conservative base. We need to see at least ONE leader stand up to this corrupt administration. The morale of the “troops” is vastly underrated and it is very important and necessary. So Dr. Krauthammer keep your chess moves in the halls of the schemers and those who think an issue must be “Gamed” to death. I’ll stick with the Speakers forthright action. I’ve had enough of crystal ball prognosticators who always know in advance the outcome of any action through their superior intellect or some such rubbish. Boehner’s action required no triple degree to know that it would be effective in snubbing that arrogant ass in the white house who was doing his own “gaming” little scheme, at the instruction of his crystal ball geniuses.

    1. Krauthammer is occassionally right, but not this time.

The First Egotist needs the ratings gained by shuttling the GOP debate to a single channel for his own satisfaction.

      Screw him.

I doubt of Boehner has the balls to stand firm and will reqach across the isle in the name of cooperation as has done so many times before

      1. I also doubt Boehner will stand, but I sure pray he will. We need more of this kind of direct action against this creepy little imposter. Don’t folks understand that not only is Obama despicable but we DON’T LIKE HIM!! Why act like you do like him or respect him? Respect the office not the man?? To what degree? Until we no longer have a country because Obama is following his plan to destroy the treasure of our nation? Our military, economy, education, etc. All being destroyed by him and we are supposed to remain polite? Treat him like the enemy of this country that he is.

  29. Stephen Strasburg is a pitching phenom for the Washington Nationals baseball team. It will be his first start since Tommy John surgery last year. He can throw around 100 MPH.

  30. I don’t agree with Krauthammer. Obama’s the one who made the timing conflict, not Boehner or the GOP. Obama’s trying to disrupt the GOP because he can’t stand being criticized. I frankly don’t know how he’s going to get through this campaign season. It’s not going to be like last time where falsely calling people “racist” will shut them up. If Obama is being this petty now, this does not bode well for him.

  31. Ugh, you’re headline is terrible… why? Because Allahpundit will just repeat it a meme will start spreading… “Krauthammer disagrees with Boehner”…

First of all, Krauthammer is wrong. Obama’s speech would be on multiple channels and the rebuttal would only be on NBC… so it’s kind of worthless. Also, people get tired. They will not want to sit through a “rebuttal”. It’s better to go first.

The most important part of this video is the end… where Obama’s call to “transcend politics” of whatever is shown to be complete crap by the method in which he called up this speech.

      1. No, it’s only half of what he said… and you left out the “probably”…

Like I said, Krauthammer is complete wrong… Obama wanted the contrast(higher ratings on every channel in front of congress)…. the whole point of Obama scheduling things this way was the make the GOP look small. There is an Alpha/Beta dynamic playing here and Krauthammer wants the GOP to play Beta…

  33. I agree with Dr. Krauthammer….but either way Obama looks smaller and smaller…the incredible shrinking man.
