Larry O’Donnell has decided to tackle the ever growing problem of groups that advocate for responsible television. The problem group in question, Parents Television Council, has released a press release denouncing the makers of the TV show “Glee” for:
“a hyper-sexualized GQ photo shoot that will be featured in the November issue. … It is disturbing that GQ, which is explicitly written for adult men, is sexualizing the actresses who play high school-aged characters on ‘Glee’ in this way. It borders on pedophilia. Sadly, this is just the latest example of the overt sexualization of young girls in entertainment,” said PTC President Tim Winter.
I bolded the part that really bothered Larry, but we’ll get to that in a moment. Larry starts by describing the PTC as:
“a cult that was invented to complain about TV and pretend that the TV remotes don’t have channel selectors or buttons that turn the infernal machines off.”
Note that PTC is a group that provides helpful information to parents so they can better decide what their children should watch on TV. Yeah, Larry must really hate parents having the necessary information so that they know when to ‘turn the infernal machines off’.
Now Glee is a show that is set in a high school environment and even though the actresses in question are actually in their 20’s, they most certainly play teenagers on the show. This is why PTC said that the photos in question bordered on pedophilia, not that they actually were pedophilia. But I guess that detail is too much for poor old Larry and his really big brain to comprehend.
Larry’s big beef though is the notion of censorship. The press release, however, doesn’t call for the cessation of the show. It merely points out PTC’s problems with the show and ends by warning parents to be on guard as they expect the show to push the envelope further given this racy photo shoot. Once again, a detail that perhaps has alluded Larry.
Larry went on to say that the PTC should embrace sexuality on TV and not hide it from children because it will better prepare the children for ‘understanding and dealing with human sexuality’. And if that’s not weird enough to hear from a political pundit, he goes on to tell us that:
“But without sex there would be no families. Sex is a very very good thing, like air travel. And yes both do have their risks. And children as well as adults need to understand those risks.”
He continues by comparing the dangers of sex, and I suppose air travel, to that of children having potential access to steak knives, whiskey, and keys to the car. He implores that good parents control access to these things and that if parents believe the TV is dangerous, they should use the remote to control access to their TVs as well.
Wow Larry, where would parents be without you giving them all this really good advice. Especially the ‘sex is good and necessary’ part and the ‘children need to see it on TV so that they can better understand which places in school are best to do it’ part.
Bottom line is that Larry wants all the sex to remain on TV so, I suppose, it’s there waiting on him when he gets home. Your children be damned.
Enjoy!
