Lindsey Graham defends Trump over migrant caravan threats

Lindsey Graham just weighed in on Twitter to both agree with and defend Trump over how he’s handling the issue of the migrant caravan making its way to the US border:

1. When it comes to migrant caravans President @realdonaldtrump is right to put countries on notice that this is unacceptable and shows a lack of respect for the United States.

2. He’s also right to hold Mexico accountable because they have the ability to reduce the flow and stop these caravans if they chose to do so.

3. I also want to help Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador stabilize their countries, but we cannot tolerate having their governments be indifferent to our immigration problems.

4. New waves of illegal immigrant caravans are a distinct and different problem than dealing with illegal immigrants who have been in the United States for years.

5. We must deter new waves of caravans and at the same time be practical with the problems we already have. We must deal with these two separate and distinct problems.

Graham is right. If Trump allows this caravan to succeed in getting into the US, then they will keep coming. It was the same argument we made with Obama. He had people pouring in from Central America because of his open-border style policies and his refusal to enforce immigration laws. Trump is dead set on not making the same mistakes and I’m glad he’s making a big issue out of this.
