This morning Biden’s SCOTUS nominee was defending giving lenient sentences to the child porn offenders that came before her when Lindsey Graham hit back hard at her comments:

Jackson was making the argument that she gives lighter sentences because with one click on a computer you can download or distribute the amount of child porn that would have taken much longer to do before the internet was here.
“In comes the internet. On the internet, with one click, you can receive, you can distribute tens of thousands. You can be doing this for fifteen minutes and all of a sudden you are looking at 30, 40, 50 years in prison…”
That’s when Graham interjected “GOOD! ABSOLUTELY GOOD! I HOPE YOU ARE!”, adding “I hope you go to jail for 50 years if you’re on the internet trolling for images of children in sexual exploitation…”
He then says “So you don’t think that’s a bad thing? I think that’s a horrible thing.”
Meanwhile Durbin is yelling at Graham to let the witness finish her answers.
In regards to her argument, I hear what Jackson is saying about someone ruining their life because of the ease of access. But honestly I think the penalties should be stiffer just because of how easy the internet makes it. It’s not just about the offender after all, but about the children getting sexually exploited. The internet makes it easier for the industry to thrive and there must be stiff penalties to keep people away from it.
I think Graham is absolutely right about this.
