I don’t know if you remember during the 2012 election but one of the charges against Romney in the primary was that he had no real principles and would change them to suit his political aspirations.
Fast forward to his denying he was ever a leader of the “NeverTrump” moment:
The former presidential candidate and governor headlined a rally for Rep. Martha McSally on Friday in Gilbert, Arizona, to help boost her campaign to fill the Senate seat being left open by Sen. Jeff Flake’s departure, but comments Romney made after the event have drawn some criticism.
When Romney was asked what happened with his efforts to stop Donald Trump from becoming president in 2016, Romney denied being a leader in the so-called “never Trump” movement.
“I don’t think that was the case,” Romney said.
“President Trump was not the person I wanted to become the nominee of our party, but he’s president now. The policies he’s promoted have been pretty effective. And I support a lot of those policies. When there’s a place where I disagree, I point that out,” he said.
Uhm. Wow LOL. Dude literally gave an extended speech against Trump in the primaries in 2016, of COURSE he was a leader of NeverTrumpism!!
But now he wants a political career so he forgets all about it:

I can’t think of a better sign than the complete and total Trumpificiation of the GOP. And really, some of the more rational critics have become far extremist partisan hacks who look for reasons to hate Trump. There’s really not much in between anymore. And that is definitely to Trump’s benefit. #Winning. #MAGA!
