Major sports figure “very seriously” considering a run for president in 2020

I don’t think this is a joke. A very famous sports figure, who is a household name, has admitted to TMZ that he’s actually putting a team together to investigate a run for president in 2020.

As you can see from the video below, it’s Oscar De La Hoya.

Here’s more from TMZ:

President Oscar De La Hoya?!?!

Don’t scoff — the boxing legend says he’s “very seriously” considering running for the highest office in the land … and he’s already putting together an exploratory team.

“I am actually very, very serious and I strongly feel that if a Kanye West can do it and announce and maybe tease the world that he would maybe one day wanna run for president, why not me?”

Obviously, Oscar has no experience as an elected politician — but as ODLH pointed out on “TMZ Live,” neither did Donald Trump.

So, what convinced Oscar to explore politics?

“I’ve had literally, over the years, ever since I became a professional in boxing, I’ve had millions of people tell me, ‘Look, why don’t you represent? Why don’t you stand up and have a bigger voice?’ And obviously, the biggest voice you can have is being president.”

Oscar says if his exploratory team comes back with good numbers, he’ll make it official and begin his campaign.

And, if you’re wondering, Oscar says he believes strongly in standing for the national anthem.

To be honest, I know very little about De La Hoya’s politics. But from what little I’ve seen he sounds like a Democrat, but not necessarily a hardcore leftist type.

Regarding Nike’s decision to work with Kaepernick, he said:

La Hoya said he is “split right down the middle” on the matter, and in his opinion, Nike made a good business decision.

“[Nike] is smart, they are the 800-pound gorilla,” he said. “The bottom line is maybe, fortunately or unfortunately, they are going to sell tennis shoes.”

De La Hoya, nicknamed “The Golden Boy,” represented the United States in the 1992 Summer Olympics. He described hearing the anthem as an honorable moment in his life.

“When I heard that national anthem … playing in the Olympics in 1992 [in] Barcelona, there wasn’t not a prouder moment that I ever felt,” he said. “That’s the bottom line.”

According to TMZ he’s believes strongly in standing for the Anthem, but he doesn’t seem to want to criticize Kaepernick or Nike. So…

I also don’t think he’s a fan of Trump’s wall and has ragged on him in the past over his comments on Mexicans.

But despite his disagreements, he’s also said he doesn’t think Trump is racist:

Now that was last September, over a year ago, so who knows if he’s changed his opinion. He also said earlier in the video he wasn’t a fan of how Trump was handling DACA, accusing him of being a divider.

La Hoya does appear on Cavuto’s show a lot so I’m sure you can find more of his opinions if you wanna dig.
