Mitch McConnell came out tonight and defended Liz Cheney from attacks on her after she voted to impeach President Trump:
“Liz Cheney is a leader with deep convictions and the courage to act on them,” McConnell said in a statement to CNN. “She is an important leader in our party and in our nation. I am grateful for her service and look forward to continuing to work with her on the crucial issues facing our nation.”
As you well know, Cheney has been under the gun ever since that vote. But McConnell praises her as having ‘courage’. Um.
It is not courageous to vote to impeach a president who did NOT do what the impeachment article claimed he did. I’m sorry, that’s not courageous at all. She is no better than the despicable Democrats on that vote.
Meanwhile, McConnell also issued another statement tonight calling Marjorie Taylor Greene a cancer to the GOP and the country:
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Monday blasted Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s embrace of “loony lies and conspiracy theories” as a “cancer for the Republican Party.”
“Somebody who’s suggested that perhaps no airplane hit the Pentagon on 9/11, that horrifying school shootings were pre-staged, and that the Clintons crashed JFK Jr.’s airplane is not living in reality,” McConnell said in a statement first shared with The Hill. “This has nothing to do with the challenges facing American families or the robust debates on substance that can strengthen our party.”
McConnell didn’t mention Greene by name in his three-sentence statement, but his rare, scathing remarks about a freshman GOP lawmaker from the other chamber suggests he recognizes the potential damage her violent rhetoric and bizarre conspiracy theories could inflict on congressional Republicans as they try to take back both the House and Senate in next year’s midterms.
Realizing McConnell’s comment was about her, Greene responded on Twitter saying “The real cancer for the Republican Party is weak Republicans who only know how to lose gracefully. This is why we are losing our country.”

It’s clear Greene has a questionable past if she believed in all that. She was also said to be Qanon too. But she ran for Congress and was elected by the people in her district in Georgia so whatever her past was, it’s important how she carries herself now. But unfortunately her past makes her a very easy target for Democrats and Republicans like McConnell. And they will keep foisting that past back on her until she’s no longer in Congress.
