The news of McConnell’s rather strong disillusionment with Trump yesterday got Democrat hopes up that the Senate would break from its pro forma sessions and begin an impeachment trial. But McConnell dashed those hopes today:

“McConnell’s office called Schumer’s people today and told them McConnell would not consent to reconvening immediately under the 2004 emergency authorities, a person familiar says. So the Senate won’t reconvene Friday, or almost certainly before January 19. Trial in Biden term.”
“Trial in Biden term” means that Democrats are planning to try and impeach Trump in the Senate after he’s already gone. They are obsessed with destroying the man and preventing him from returning to office.
While Ari Fleischer isn’t keen on Trump after the Capitol riot, he still believes using impeachment to try and barr him from office is a huge mistake:
As far as impeachment goes, Trump is on his own. I won’t defend him. But barring him from seeking office is a mistake. In a democracy, decisions like that should be up to the people, not a small group in DC. In all times, (2020 and 2024) the voters should be sovereign.

As Tom McClintock said today…
Republican Rep. Tom McClintock: “If we impeached every politician who gave a fiery speech to a crowd of partisans, this Capitol would be deserted.”

Boom. I love everything he said in this short clip, especially his point about Trump’s speech last week.
He also made a point that I tried to make earlier this morning, noting that these rioters felt emboldened to storm the capitol after watching BLM and Antifa riot and loot for so many months last year with little condemnation.
