Incoming acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said on Fox News that Trump is already negotiating down from $5 billion with democrats in order to stop the government shutdown.

Both sides are really entrenched on this, and it’s hard to see a way out – Democrats just don’t want to hand Trump a win on the border wall, but Trump has his back against the wall with his base. He has not been able to expand beyond his base in terms of support, as was clearly manifested by the midterm election, but if he doesn’t get the wall, he’s going to really piss off his base of support. So who is going to blink first?
