Mike Huckabee considers leaving talk radio

Cumulus put Huckabee up against Rush Limbaugh as the “civil and discussion-oriented forum” after the Sandra Fluke incident. Looks like that is working out about how you’d expect:

INSIDE RADIO – A year after Mike Huckabee launched his daily three-hour radio show on Cumulus Media Networks, the former Arkansas governor and presidential hopeful says he’s now considering whether to stick with it. “Within the next month, I’ll decide if I want to continue it or not,” he tells Arkansas Business.

Huckabee says producing a daily radio show has been an “incredibly intensive process” and while he broadcasts from his Florida home, it can take up to seven hours a day preparing for the program. “I’ve got to always weigh how much time I’m putting in it and what the return is,” Huckabee says. The program has grown to about 225 stations, less than half the number that carry his daily short-form commentaries which have been in syndication since 2009. He also hosts a weekend TV show for Fox News Channel.

The problem is is Rush is civil commentary. The left and a few on the right try and label Rush as uncivil when he isn’t. The trouble is it’s always considered ‘uncivil’ when one tells the truth out loud point blank blunt.

Soon Huckaphony will announce he will be on hiatus to revamp his show right Mika? If I was a leading shareholder in Cumulus I would push to have their President fired before he runs Rush off and destroys his network. This idea of pushing vapid talk radio will not sell.

Don’t beat yourself to death Governor, with this radio show. You are needed in a lot more areas than hidden behind a microphone. You can always go back to radio. America needs your leadership that radio doesn’t offer. T.V. is your venue for max returns. People look up to you, but they need to see you. God bless you in whatever you decide.

Incredibly demanding!!?? What did he think it was, a walk in the park? Huckster has always struck me as a vain, sanctimonious, self righteous and bitter man. He has his followers but cannot in my view grow his brand (whatever that may be).

RINO’s like the Bushies, Huckabee, Romney, Rove, Coulter, Hume, Perrino, Will, Krauthammer, Kristol have done irreparable damage to the republican party, but more importantly, to this once great country.
Now, it’s conservatives, who aren’t consumed with white guilt, and believe in a society based on meritocracy–where everyone is given equal opportunity, but not equal results, to save the country we love, because the aforementioned people, don’t have a clue.

mder4thegov Are they Republicans in name only, or are they just Republicans?  Let’s not confuse conservatives with Republicans.  In my view, the aforementioned people above have conservative leanings, but think there is a game to be played.  Only problem is that they see it as a game, and liberals see it as their religion.
Conservatives have an entirely different religion, and it ain’t politics.  That’s the rub.  I’m ok with that. I try my best to obey the first commandment.

Translation: Cumulus is changing their mind because Limbaugh is threatening them.  They have officially been put in their place by EL Rushbo.

deTocqueville1 MontyRay I only say it because I remember Cumulus coming out and saying that the country was ready for a moderate alternative to Limbaugh.  Now that the contract is up, Limbaugh is going to give them hell.  They bit the hand that fed them.  They bought into the Fluke crap, and they ended up on the wrong side of the equation.  Rush has since gained listeners and recovered/gained ad revenue.

MontyRay Not impressed with Rush lately as he gushes over Rubio and deceives about border security.

Orangeone MontyRay I wouldn’t say Rush is “gushing” over Rubio.  He feels like many feel – that he’s a good man with good conservative opinions.  He just happens to be dead wrong on immigration…and Rush says as much.

deTocqueville1 Sorry. Fact. The human mind has very little capacity to pay attention to anything for more than an hour at a time. That’s why college classes are no longer. Even lib proffs figured that out.
However, had Sarah run for POTUS, I would have campaigned for here a lot longer than 3 hrs. at a time and not minded at all.

Gee, isn’t it terrible that he has to work 7 whole hours to prep for a high paying, high profile job. I think I caught 5 minutes of his radio show once, but I had to turn it off or fall asleep at the wheel.

“Gee, isn’t it terrible that he has to work 7 whole hours to prep for a high paying, high profile job”.
I guess libs can’t even manage to work 7 hours a day. Do you remember a liberal talk show network called “Air America”?
wink wink

tinlizzieowner Garym1 Why would  lib work even 7 hours a day when welfare, food stamps, ObamaPhone, etc. pay better and they can sit online, text, have flash mobs, etc. instead.

I’m quite familiar with ‘that’ Air America. My outfit shared a taxiway with them (out in ‘the boondocks’) at Tan Son Nhut in 66.

Huckabee: another useless RINO, with an out-of-control ego, getting his comeuppance, HALLELUJAH.
I never listened to the blowhard, and haven’t watched the RINO’S at Fox News in 21/2 years.
Give me Palin, Cruz, West, who are unapologetic, principled conservatives, any day–over these wobbly, democrat-lite phonies.

Not quite correct. Cumulus Media Networks was going to try to put Huckabee in a spot where it would ‘appear’ as if he was trying ‘to hurt Rush’, over THEIR ‘problems’ with Rush.
Think what you wish of Huckabee, there’s more to this than what meets the eye. wink

CarolynDixon It seems that way.  Obviously Huckabee wasn’t aware of how hard Rush works or the time it takes to gather information for the show.  Rush has a trusted staff that have been with him almost since the beginning.  Huckabee has only been at it a year.  At this point there is no comparison.  Frankly I think Huckabee should stay with it.  I like this Huckabee better than the political Huckabee.  He’s not in a position to make a bad decision that could affect peoples’ lives and safety.

The guy I worked for was blunt and to the point (like Mark Levin). It was a call-in show and he didn’t suffer fools lightly. He was a Viet Nam ‘Force Recon’ Marine and we’re still dear friends to this day.
The station he worked for was bought by a ‘politically correct’ (so called) conservative ‘media organization’. They told him he had to ‘tone things down a bit’ because they ‘could loose revenue’ because of some of his comments. He told them to ‘stuff it’ and quit after 20 years on the air.
They were right, they ‘did loose revenue’. Not because of his comments but for loss of listeners who went elsewhere. The station is still on the air, they carry Hannity and Huckabee but they have never had the guts to carry Rush or Levin.

Cumulus Media Networks bit off more than they could chew when they tried to make Rush more ‘politically correct’. Now, they could lose Huckabee too.
Take it from somebody who has been involved in this stuff, what you see on TV or hear on radio is just the tip of the iceberg, there’s a whole lot of ‘homework’ behind it. Will Rush or Mike leave the air? I doubt it, other (conservative) ‘media outlets’ are going to be stumbling over each other trying to pick them up, count on it.
