Mike Lee is working on a statement where he will oppose the objections by some of his colleagues to the electoral votes on Wednesday.
We first heard about his opposition in this tweet from Politico’s Alex Isenstadt, who obtained a copy of a letter Lee and Chip Roy were collaborating on:
Utah Sen. Mike Lee – a Trump ally who helped to lead his impeachment strategy – is sending around a letter to senators expressing his opposition to the electoral college objection

But Isenstadt didn’t have it all correct according to Con Carroll, Lee’s comms director:
Really wish @politicoalex had contacted me before tweeting this but he chose not to. This is not a letter Sen. Lee has been sending to colleagues. If you'll note it is word for word the same as @chiproytx's statement from yesterday. 1/ https://t.co/Jhxm6tnxgL

Sen. Lee was working with Chip on a possible joint statement. This "letter" Alex has is one of those drafts. Sen. Lee wanted more changes and decided not to sign on to this statement. 2/

Sen. Lee did share the Roy statement with colleagues, but he in now way told his colleagues it was a finished product. Sen. Lee planned to issue his own finalized statement tomorrow or Wednesday. fin/

I wish Lee would stand with Team Cruz, as he has done in the past. But it sounds like he’s going to go the Tom Cotton route this time around. As Mark Levin tweeted, “It’s even worse than I thought. Mike Lee working with Chip Roy. Very sad.”
