Ed Morrissey said earlier today that if Mitt Romney want’s to defend RomneyCare going into 2012, then at least he’ll have that one all by himself. Tonight Bill O’Reilly interviewed Mitt and the topic was RomneyCare. One thing that surprised me in the interview was that Romney seemed to imply that health care costs going down wasn’t the object of passing RomneyCare. When O’Reilly tells him the costs are higher in Mass. than anywhere in the nation, he simply replies that they were high before the bill passed. I’d have to go look back to see what the promises were, but I’m betting that they were promising that costs would go down. But I could be wrong.
Then Romney asserts that he was trying to tackle health care on the state level because it’s a state problem. But then he notes that the feds are subsidizing half of the costs. Geez, I didn’t realize mine and your tax dollars were going to pay for RomneyCare.
This is going to be his downfall in 2012 if he chooses to run, and honestly it should be. These will be the political consequences of his big government ideas.
