Yesterday with the announcement that the Trump administration was seeking a +$800 billion dollar stimulus from Congress to fight the economic effects of the coronavirus, MSNBC host Chris Hayes tweeted the following:
BREAKING: We can, of course, afford a Green New Deal. That’s been true all along. https://t.co/NRsOLF87H1

Wait, since when does the Green New Deal only cost $800 billion? Also, why is everyone at MSNBC so bad at math?
$800 billion is not equal to $93 trillion. Even on MSNBC. https://t.co/fYaszofqnR

Math doesn't seem to be your network's strong suit, but $800 billion ≠ $93 trillion. https://t.co/eafNs6bzl5

Is everyone on cable news shows really bad at math? 🤔 https://t.co/19yaEecdFa

American Action Forum puts the Green New Deal cost at $52-$93 trillion. https://t.co/7yFexxCS4Y https://t.co/gNFS5epM15

What is it with MSNBC and basic math lately? https://t.co/DYCrxxs456

By my calculations you’d need around 116 stimuluses the size of 800 billion to reach the amount it would cost to pass AOC’s Green New Deal. But hey, I’m not expert. Maybe Chris Hayes could have Mara Gay on to talk about it…
