MTG decries treatment of Capitol riot defendants, urges Jan 6. panel to tour DC jail [VIDEO]

Marjorie Taylor Greene, Louie Gohmert, Matt Gaetz and Paul Gosar held a press conference today highlighting the horrible treatment of those arrested after the Capitol riot and called on the January 6th Committee to tour the DC jail to see it with their own eyes.

Here’s more from NY Post:

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene slammed what she called the “outrageous” treatment of Capitol riot defendants in Washington, DC’s main jail Tuesday and urged lawmakers on the House select committee investigating the events of Jan. 6 to see the facility for themselves.

During a press conference with fellow Republicans Matt Gaetz of Florida, Louie Gohmert of Texas and Paul Gosar of Arizona, Greene (R-Ga.) claimed inmates are being physically abused, forced to read works of critical race theory, and mocked “for the color of their skin.”

“The Jan. 6 defendants are being treated differently on a whole ‘nother level,” Greene told reporters. “They have been beaten by the guards. They are called white supremacists. They are denied religious services, haircuts, shaving, the ability to trim their fingernails.”

“They’re denied time with their attorneys,” Greene continued. “They are denied the ability to even see their families and have their families visit there. They are denied bail and being held there without bail. Many of these people have never been charged for a crime before. Some of them are veterans. And the treatment is unbelievable.”

Greene went on to highlight what she claimed were disparities between the handling of those arrested in connection with the Capitol riot and those who were busted on charges related to urban violence in the summer of 2020.

“It clearly demonstrates to the American people, [Congress] does not care about your business that got burned down,” she said. “It doesn’t care about the job you lost. Congress doesn’t care about your city or community that was devastated by violence.”

According to Greene, the protests and violence that broke out across America following the murder of George Floyd resulted in more than $2 billion in damage, while the Capitol riot did around $1.5 million of damage.

“But yet we have a January 6 committee that Nancy Pelosi is leading,” she said before calling the panel’s probe “nothing but a political witch hunt on Republicans and Trump supporters all across America, and anyone that was at the Capitol on Jan. 6.”

“What’s happening to these people being held in custody is wrong. It’s unconstitutional. It’s a violation of their rights,” Greene added.

The lawmaker — who visited the DC jail and Jan. 6 defendants early last month — also claimed there is a “big political bias playing in the courts,” alleging that some defendants have said “their public defenders hate them” and “call them white supremacist.”

Greene further claimed some lawyers have told the rioters to denounce former President Donald Trump and their political views, as well as “watch videos and read books that basically is critical race theory training in order for them to have this public defender represent them.”

While Greene denounced the riot, which led to the deaths of five people, she and Gosar likened the defendants’ treatment in the DC jail to political persecution.

It’s really impressive to see these four Congressmen stick their necks out for something so politically incorrect and even toxic to some. It should real courage on their part and this is something sorely needed in Congress.

You can be sure that the Pelosi’s hack Democrat committee doesn’t give a rat’s behind about the mistreatment of these defendants and will ignore all of this, Liz Cheney included.
