NBC News goes out of their way to avoid saying “Washington Redskins” in article about the team

Even after the Obama administration failed to force the Washington Redskins to change their name, by taking away their copyright protection, NBC News still refuses to call the team by it’s given name:

At first glance I thought NBC News was talking about a team in the XFL that we people aren’t that familiar with. But no, NBC News just doesn’t want to say the name ‘Redskins’.

Here’s how they start their article

The NFL’s Washington team has hired its first black full-time female coach, the team announced this week.

In her new role as an intern, Jennifer King will work primarily with the offensive staff and assist Randy Jordan, the team’s running back coach. During the 2017 season, King was an intern for the Carolina Panthers under Ron Rivera, now Washington’s head coach.

“The NFL’s Washington team”? Who says it like that? I don’t think I could have come up with a more awkward way to refer to the Washington Redskins.

I searched the article for the word ‘redskins’ and only found one reference to it. It was in a quote from Rivera himself:

“Jennifer is a bright young coach and will be a great addition to our staff,” Rivera said in a statement. “Her familiarity with my expectations as a coach and my first-hand knowledge of her work ethnic and preparation were big factors in bringing her to the Redskins.”

Read that paragraph very closely. Do you see the unfortunate typo by NBC News author Gwen Aviles? I double checked to make sure Rivera didn’t say ‘work ethnic’ and he didn’t. LOL! What a mistake to make, especially when trying to be so politically correct.

NBC News fail!
