NBC News reports that the inspector general was so bothered by the many failures of the FBI in this FISA application for Carter Page that they are opening a new investigation into the FBI’s FISA warrant process.

Pete Williams explains that the IG report basically says the FBI “repeatedly screwed up at every level”, “failing to pay enough attention to potential problems with Steele” and “failing to tell the Justice Department.”
Of course he also notes what we already know, that the IG says the FISA application regarding Carter Page was in many ways “inaccurate, incomplete, or unsupported”.
At the end of the reporting though, Williams notes that the inspector general is so concerned with how the FBI mishandled this FISA application into a candidate for president, that it is now opening a new investigation into how the FBI is getting FISA warrants for normal everyday citizens.
