New Jerseyans petition against city raising gay rainbow flag for LGBTQetc pride

A few New Jerseyans are opposing their city raising a gay rainbow flag to show gay pride, and the media is very angry that anyone might object.

From North Jersey.com:

A plan to fly the rainbow pride flag next month at Borough Hall has stirred up controversy in town.

An online petition was started and flyers have been posted around the borough calling for the municipal government to cancel its planned raising of the flag.

Sponsored by Rutherford Pride, a flag-raising ceremony at Borough Hall is scheduled for June 1, the first day of Gay Pride Month. The flag is a symbol of LGBTQ — lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer — pride. This is first time the flag will be raised at the municipal building.

“I know this incident today may have brought up various feelings for people within our community and group,” said Rob Lyons of Rutherford Pride in a Facebook post. “Ultimately, these posters have had the reverse effect, and is amplifying the support that our LGBTQ+ residents of Rutherford have from allies within our town.”

Here’s the petition, and their reasoning for why they’re opposed to the gay flag:

The Rutherford Pride Alliance and Rainbow Fellowship of Rutherford want to use town property to make political, moral and social statements. This includes flying a flag at town hall for an entire month and permanently repainting crosswalks to colors that only represent the groups. The Rutherford town council is in favor of this and working with certain individuals to make this happen by June 2019. Will the council now allow any group to repaint a crosswalk or fly a flag? Why is one group given preference over another? If one group is allowed to make these changes then others will follow. This will only foster division. Town property belongs to all residents; not special interest groups.

Tell the town council you don’t want Rutherford torn apart by the bitterness, anger and political partisanship of our day. Rutherford is made of many different groups and it is wrong to favor one special interest group over another or over the entire town. The council should fly flags on town property that speak for all residents such as the U.S. flag, State of NJ flag or Rutherford town flag and keep crosswalks as they are without modifying the colors and lines or jeopardizing safety for political gain.

It’s not a lot of people and I don’t blame them – we’ve seen what can happen when you publicly oppose the LGBT agenda, and it’s not pretty.

In this video, the news media makes the petitioners sound very intolerant:

Absurd. And it’s gonna get worse, trust me on that one…
