NEW: Man who attacked Republican Lee Zeldin re-arrested on FEDERAL assault charge after initially being released

The story that would have the biggest story in America if the parties were reversed, the attack on Lee Zeldin, and would have been the biggest CONTROVERSY in America when the attacker was released if the parties were reversed, has now been upgraded to a story that would be the ONLY thing on the Sunday talk shows tomorrow if the parties were reversed, after the attacker was arrested again a short time ago.

But not for a new crime. David Jakubonis was released on his “own recognizance” this week after assaulting Lee Zeldin in New York. On Saturday the feds picked him up on a federal assault charge.

And it was quite the dramatic scene, laid out by the Daily Mail here:

David Jakubonis, 43, an Army veteran, was arrested after allegedly attacking Zeldin with a $10 cat keyring weapon at the congressman’s Thursday campaign rally for state governor, outside of Rochester, New York. He was released hours later.

But on Saturday, DailyMail.com cameras saw Jakubonis, who had shaved his goatee overnight, was taken into custody by FBI, New York State police and deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

A six-car motorcade pulled into Jakubonis’ apartment complex a little before noon on Saturday and left with Jakubonis in custody 15 minutes later.

He’s set to make his first appearance in court Saturday afternoon in front of US Magistrate Judge Marion W. Payson.

A spokesperson for the US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York confirmed the details to DailyMail.com.

Jakubonis, who was hammered when he threated to end Zeldin, now claims he did not know who Zeldin is.
