NEWT: Trump is not smart enough to take on Mueller’s team in interview [VIDEO]

It’s being reported this morning that Trump is shrugging off the advice of his lawyers to avoid an interview with Mueller, as Mueller has finally contacted Trump about negotiations for a potential interview. The bottom line is Mueller won’t agree to limit the topics and there must an interview for at least some of the questions.

Newt Gingrich was asked about that this morning and not only does he say Trump is unwise to attempt the interview, but he also suggests that Trump is not smart enough to beat Mueller’s perjury trap.

Watch:

Here’s what Newt has to say:

I think the president is very unwise to walk into a perjury trap against a group of smart guys who’ve spent a year’s time getting ready to try and kill him. And I think he is not – no one is smart enough to take on all of Mueller’s team.

Newt stops short from saying Trump himself isn’t smart enough and expands it to ‘everyone’ – a very diplomatic thing to do. But either way you look at it, I think he’s right on both counts and Trump should take his advice lock, stock, and barrel.

After all, you’ve seen the way Trump has characterized these lawyers working for Mueller. Just yesterday, once again, he called them “angry Democrats”:

So why on earth would he try to take on 17 angry Democrats, who he would agree has been working toward his demise, in an interview? I know Trump likes to win, but why even give them this opportunity, especially if he believes he’s done nothing wrong and they have nothing on him.

I understand Trump’s strong desire for this investigation to end, but this is not the way to do it.
