NY cases of coronavirus up dramatically over the weekend…

New York continues to be the epicenter for the coronavirus outbreak in the US and their numbers have risen significantly over the weekend:

NY POST – The number of confirmed cases of the deadly coronavirus has climbed to 20,875 statewide, including 12,305 in the five boroughs of New York City, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Monday.

The grim toll also includes 157 deaths in the Empire State, Cuomo said — representing more than a third of the 463 deaths nationwide.

“I see it as a wave that will break at one point, and the question is, what is the point of the break?” said Cuomo. “When the wave breaks, does it crash over the health-care system?”

That’s 20,875 as of this morning. According to nCoV2019.live, that’s a 32% increase from yesterday.

On Saturday night, the Post was reporting that count had risen to 11,600:

The number of coronavirus cases in New York surged by more than 4,500 on Saturday, jolting the statewide number of infected past 11,600 on the eve of an unprecedented lockdown from Brooklyn to Buffalo aimed at containing the deadly bug.

That means on Friday the ended with roughly 7,100 cases of coronavirus, and now they have almost 21k cases.

The number dead are also climbing at a similar rate, rising 37% today to 157. New York now leads the US in this category as well. Just late last week Washington State had the largest fatality rate.
