“NY election officials were WOEFULLY unprepared” – NBC News highlights the fiasco that mail-in ballots are causing in New York

Last night NBC Nightly News aired a segment on the mess that mail-in ballots have caused in a local race in New York, which we wrote about yesterday.

Watch:

They explain some of the failures that we highlighted yesterday, namely how Governor Cuomo screwed everything up by sending postage-paid envelopes with requested ballots. NBC News reported that the post office doesn’t normally put a postage stamp on postage-paid envelopes, and that’s a problem because the they envelopes needed a ‘date stamp’ in order to be counted. Thus thousands of ballots were rejected.

They also noted that there were 10 times the number of people requesting absentee ballots just four years ago, which led to 1.8 million people flooding the mail system. And to make things worse, some 33,000 ballots were mailed out the day before the election, which meant they would never be returned in time to to be counted.

NBC News says early in the segment that “Experts tell NBC News that New York election officials were WOEFULLY unprepared.”

To top this off, one election expert from Stanford argued that Congress needs to give states 4 BILLION dollars in the next two weeks in order for states to buy the needed equipment to better prepare for mail-in voting. In other words, mail-in voting will be a disaster that we wasted 4 billion dollars on if it’s allowed to happen.
