NY Post says government needs to ban “Weapons of War”

The New York Post editorial board came out with an article this morning calling on Trump to support the banning of “weapons of war”, meaning AR-15s and the like:

The article starts out reminding us of just how many mass shootings there have been since Parkland:

Two mass shootings within 24 hours in El Paso and Dayton, days after the Garlic Festival killings. Three months after Virginia Beach, six months after Aurora, nine months after Thousand Oaks, 10 months after Tree of Life, 15 months after Santa Fe High School, 18 months after Parkland and in the wake of larger horrors like the Vegas concert and Pulse nightclub massacres.

“God bless the people of El Paso, Texas. God bless the people of Dayton, Ohio,” President Trump tweeted Sunday.

God save us all, sir. People all across the nation are scared; many feel like the country is spinning out of control. They’re looking to their leaders for more than prayers.

America is terrified.

They call for a return of the assault weapons ban:

Come up with answers. Now. Beginning with the return of an assault weapons ban.

There have no doubt been a lot of mass shootings in the last 18 months. But they all didn’t use ‘weapons of war’, as the post puts it on their front page. Some used pistols, revolvers, and shotguns and were able to kill 10, 12 or more people. If you bring back the assault weapons ban people will just use handguns with multiple magazines, or multiple handguns, as some are already doing.

Banning guns isn’t the answer. If anything we need more people carrying guns, whether concealed or not. We need more states and businesses welcoming people who do carry guns, even openly, and to get rid of these gun-free zones. We need to reorient our policies away from these anti-gun attitudes and against these monstrous killers.

And even then it won’t stop them all, because our culture is rotting from the inside out. Atheism has replaced God in the hearts of men. The internet has provided an easy way for potential killers to associate, share ideas and encourage evil acts. The media continues to glorify these heinous acts with their non-stop media coverage of mass shootings. And so on and so forth.

My point is that there are no easy answers to solve this, but we can be smart if we want to be.
