Ocasio-Cortez continued to rant about pro-life laws last night after she got caught lying about Alabama’s new pro-life law that was signed by the governor.
She called the laws a “brutal form of oppression” by “religious fundamentalists” and said they were about “owning women”:
Abortion bans aren’t just about controlling women’s bodies.
They’re about controlling women’s sexuality. Owning women.
From limiting birth control to banning comprehensive sex ed, US religious fundamentalists are working hard to outlaw sex that falls outside their theology.
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) May 16, 2019
Ultimately, this is about women’s power.
When women are in control of their sexuality, it threatens a core element underpinning right-wing ideology: patriarchy.
It’s a brutal form of oppression to seize control of the 1 essential thing a person should command: their own body.

It’s astonishing just what people like Ocasio-Cortez will say to protect this horrific practice of torturing a baby to death, all in the name of controlling one’s body. It’s the epitome of selfishness.
These laws are not about owning or controlling women. They are about protecting the most vulnerable among us from a hedonistic society that wants to have sex after one date with zero consequences. They are about protecting the unborn from people who put their own sexual pleasures over the LIFE of a human being.
Just imagine for a second someone making these same arguments in defense of slavery, that emancipation laws were a “brutal form of oppression” by “religious fundamentalists”, that they were about “owning” slave owners. They’d be seen as evil! Or potentially a laughing stock.
Here’s a few great responses from “religious fundamentalists” on Twitter:
No matter how you spin this, Alexandria, you are advocating for the systemic violence that destroys millions of innocent human lives. Almost 1M children are killed in the womb annually because of fear, coercion, & for many – sexual convenience. This isn’t freedom; it’s brutality.

Our control over our bodies doesn’t equal the right to kill a child. My sexual choices do not include a choice to kill.
Early 1st trimester—starves child to death
Other 1st + 2nd—suctions baby into pieces or uses forceps to dismember
3rd—lethal injectionhttps://t.co/jCkDKkQmuu— Lila Rose (@LilaGraceRose) May 16, 2019
The world would make more sense to you if you understood that abortion restrictions, oppose them or support them, are really about the view that a fetus might be a child and therefore society has a duty to protect it. It’s not about control or even theology. It’s just about life. https://t.co/YdFvbw8oq7

Thankfully most people see through this tired rhetoric and recognize what’s obvious:
The right to control your body doesn’t include the right to take a human life. It’s that simple. https://t.co/JThB0DOCq9

So you’re saying women are nothing without the ability to sleep with anyone without consequence? Seems sexist. Also, government not paying for birth control is not limiting access, unless someone is such a loser they can’t afford a condom. If so, they shouldn’t be screwing anyone https://t.co/l3bVId1Pwe
