On Trump’s travel ban tweet…

So I posted a rather curt and snarky post about Trump’s twitter response to the London terror attack. You can read that here.

I wanted to clarify some of my thoughts now that it’s been a day of hysteria.

Trump is right in his sentiment, even though it appears a little crass to jump to politicization immediately. A travel ban on countries with terror problems is not a bad idea. And IF these perpetrators turn out to be recent immigrants, then certainly a travel ban would have stopped the killings. It cannot be doubted that some sort of travel ban would prevent some of the attacks we’ve seen.

That’s why a crazed response like that from CNN’s Reza Aslan is so nutty.

As some have pointed out, not only did Obama politicize many of the shootings we saw in America, but liberals literally called for politicization of those events. However, we cannot let the lowest behavior of our opponents be the guide of our behavior. That’s why I thought Trump’s tweets were slightly inappropriate to the honor and dignity of the office the American public has granted him.

We still don’t know the identity of the terrorists in London, or whether they were immigrants or refugees or homegrown killers. But it’s clear that routine policing isn’t enough to stop terror attacks in Europe. Is that all we can do to protect Americans here as well? Or do we do more?
