Open Thread: Red Skelton’s Pledge of Allegiance

This is Red Skelton’s stunning rendition of the Pledge of Allegiance from January 14, 1969.

That was back in the day when network television still made edifying contributions to American culture every once in a while.

    1. Thanks for the link, OS. Yeah, that ONE bullet had a built-in supernatural echo. Where can I get me some of them??

      Happy Fourth if July!!

      God Bless America!!

  1. SOMEBODY NEEDS TO SHOW THIS TO THE GUY IN THE WHITE HOUSE—-NOT THAT IT WOULD MATTER MUCH TO HIM !

  2. Oh boy, that was fantastic. When I was a girl in school we had to pick a “celebrity” to write to. I chose Red Skelton. He actually wrote back and sent me an autographed picture of himself. I used to imitate him, imitating his rendition of Joe The Bartender. (Stop laughing, I was young, ok?) He was a true gentleman and a patriot, we need more of them today.
    Happy 4th everybody!

  3. Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.

This man would not be a patriot, in Hollywood, but a right-wing zealot. He would be considered a dinosaur, at best; a laughing stock, at worst. His name would be dragged through the mud, and every one of the so-called ‘beautiful people’ would hate him so much, it would be like with Earnest Borgnine. When they tried to give him a lifetime achievement award, simply because he was known to be Conservative (but not even an outspoken one), significant elements wanted to oppose the award. Hollywood has always lionized scumbags to magnify them into things they clearly are not (i.e.: good people), while simultaneously championing values that run against the grain of all things good and just. Red Skelton’s rendition of the Pledge of Allegiance would be like giving peanuts to someone with an allergy. Their reaction would be ugly and pretty swift, and the legions of useful idiots that worship the Scum of the Earth (i.e.: Hollywood-types) would be right behind them, at their feet with torches, ropes and pitchforks, looking to not only destroy this man’s career, but possibly even murder him (do you really put that past these violent, bloodthirsty liberals that openly advocate death for Conservatives, with the tacit approval of ‘law enforcement’?).

Hollywood, liberality, the Left Coast, etc., all say there is, was, and never will be any place in America (especially in their industry of overpaid, uneducated, talentless hacks, good-for-nothing other than playing make-believe and dress-up) for such displays of patriotism. All the while, they show their ignorance and stupidity, not realizing that America has no place for THEM, and their evil, ungrateful antithesis of patriotism.

Red Skelton’s answer to America’s problems?

Wake up and realize your own — and America’s — exceptionalism, and stop trying to pretend neither exists. Be thankful and grateful to the God and Country that gave you everything you have, and made a fair and just playing field so you can get the other things that you want. Reaching out to your neighbors that need a hand, and keeping the government out of the charity business. Civics. Duty. Loyalty. Realizing America is a nation that stands head and shoulders above all nations, and we are not their equals, but, when times require, their benefactor.

The liberals’ answer to America’s problems? The liberal solution to America’s place in the world?

Exactly! The libtards don’t have a clue what they’re working toward. Blind leading the blind.

      Happy Fourth of July, VirusX!!

      God bless America!!

  4. John Wayne and the Pledge of Allegiance

  5. This dates back to when the Democrat party was the more conservative of the two parties.

    I love Red Skelton.
But when I was forced to watch him as a kid…it seemed boring to me when he would do things like this, because I was getting a constant dose of the same thing at school every day.
This sort of open patriotism and acknowledgement of our founding principles was so commonplace back then, that it was hard for me to appreciate it as a kid.

We see now why it was important.
The absence of it our daily lives has spawned generations who are easily propagandized by people who wish us harm.

In all fairness though, the dishonesty of the Vietnam War years gave rise to a general disdain for the meme of ‘my country right or wrong’.
It was declared “unpatriotic” to question what the government was doing.
So in defiance against this fascism, many in my generation embraced this label and rejected all the traditional trappings of ‘patriotism’.
But just like the people they railed against…they have taken it too far.

The generation that said “question everything” and “don’t trust anyone over 30”, has morphed into even worse fascist control freaks than the ones they used to rail against.

It seems to be basic human nature though, for kids to rebel against what their teachers are craming down their throats at school.
    This gives me hope.

Since our children are now being given a steady diet of liberal indoctrination in school and from the lib-controlled media complex…I am hoping that they will embrace that natural tendency to rebel against it.

    1. “The generation that said “question everything” and “don’t trust anyone over 30″, has morphed into even worse fascist control freaks than the ones they used to rail against.”

      You can say that again!!

    2. “The generation that said “question everything” and “don’t trust anyone over 30″, has morphed into even worse fascist control freaks than the ones they used to rail against.”

      You can say that again!!

    3. If you research the people of whom you speak, you will find the very names of political participants that directly or indirectly run our gov’t today. Bill Ayers Bernadene Dorn, Hillary Clinton (then rodham) and an entire list of the very people in gov’t today that began this upheavel more than 40 years ago. As for your statement we see now why this instruction was so important in our schools…. I leave that to one of our founders.

“Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to prosperity, religion and morality are indespensible supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens…Let it simply be asked, where is the security of prosperity, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths which are the instruments of investigation in courts of justice?”
      — George Wsahington —

Altough this was his farewell address the things he speaks of here are exactly what has happened in our schools in the past 40 years. Religion and morality used to be taught in schools.

  6. Red Skelton was my favorite comedian growing up. I got to see him live once and even at age 74, he was just as funny as ever. His patriotism and love for America was always in evidence.

It’s so sad that the innocent sentiment of patriotism has virtually disappeared from TV and movies today. For some inexplicable reason, you’re not one of the “cool kids” if you dare express any kind of love for your country. It’s almost as though we’ve been conditioned to reject the blessings of this great land of ours, instead of embracing her values as was done before us.

It’s my prayer that we will once again realize the great gift we and the world were given in the form of America, and that we can return her values of independence, integrity, and honesty to their rightful place in our hearts and the hearts of those we elect to represent us.

  7. Today, if someone attempted to do this on television they would cut out the words “under god” then probably ban Red from ever being on national television again and call him a racist.

  8. I am a naturalized citizen and made me cry watching this. USA is the best country in the world and I pray to GOD everyday that this beloved country of ours survived the obama’s administration. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

    1. Thank you for choosing the USA. Citizen, you are most welcome here!

      God Bless America!!!

  9. All of these politically correct talking heads both in and out of government should be made to watch this to see what a real patriot is.

Happy 4th of July (from Canada) to all of my American friends here at TRS…..

    1. I second that Linky1. Happy Independence Day greetings to my great American neighbours to the south!

    2. Thank you Canada! I will always remember the bravery of your fellow Canadians who helped six Americans escape captivity in Iran. I am very grateful for our fantastic neighbors to the north!

  10. Red Skelton was twice the man and 5 times the Patriot than that idiot in the White House and his Ilk.

  11. I saw this live as a kid. Too bad it has been so long ago that Hollywood, doesn’t act like this any more.

    1. I saw this live as a kid as well. My parents were big Red Skelton fans and we actually saw a taping of his show less that a year before this particular show aired. The guest star on the show we saw was Vincent Price. Skelton told some jokes during breaks in the taping that were really funny. I still have the printed program of the show (yes, they gave out programs at TV tapings in the ’60s).

  12. I remember watching Red Skelton when I was little. Back then he was just someone funny. Now I appreciate what a wonderful person he was. A true gentleman. I can’t think of any comedian that even comes close to being in the same class. We miss you Red.

  13. The True Grantor of Liberty And Justice for All. God Almighty.
Please Watch this music Video called – Repent America!

    1. Very moving. I watch this as we await the verdict on the Casey Anthony trial. I know, it’s being shoved down our throats, but child abusers (killers), I have zero tolerance for.

Let’s pray for justice for Caylee.
