Palin on debate: Wanted more substance, Newt did best

Sarah Palin said at one point between her children bickering in one ear and the candidates bickering in the other ear, she wasn’t sure which was making more sense. She seriously wanted more substance and specifics and overall felt that Newt did the best on substance. She references Newt again later in the segment saying that everyone could learn from his calm cool manner, and went on to say that he could clobber Barack Obama in a debate. She does add to that though that she’s not sure if he will be the one to win the nomination and she seemed a little sad about it.

Palin is irrelevant and I guess we should not be surprised that she is still around. Just a way for her to get more exposure which allows her to make millions from speeches telling people what they want to her and from her commenting. Talk about easy money. Question, if she was ugly, how many people would give her the same attention?

Newt has sold me after his last two debates. Clear and articulate. He’s had some home issues and I don’t condone them. He would slap the taste out Obama mouth in debates and articulate issues in a way that people who don’t follow politics like we do here would understand. I like Sarah a lot. I am disappointed in her though. If you feel so strongly about the crashing of our country and you have God given talent and support from so many people why not sacrifice for your country? What the hell is that. She’s not the only one though. Paul Ryan is the man I was hoping for but he didn’t run either and I’m really disappointed. Can you imagine how he would’ve cleaned the clocks of the other cantidates in the debate except for Newt? Oh well we are left with the dregs. Where is the patriotism?… Read more »

All that Newt would have to do is abolish his position on global warming and that issue he had with Ryan and this man would destroy Obama. Newt is the most articulate candidate the GOP has. I hope things can change for him. I love Cain but his 999 plan does have some issues in it.

The point that you missed is that almost every single person you’ll find that admires and would support a Palin candidacy ALSO admires Margaret Thatcher, for most of the same reasons.

So blaming Palin’s following on her good looks is like blaming a standing army for being the reason people want to attack the country. Totally risible.

Republicans should be thanking Sarah Palin and the Tea Party for the gains in 2010. Heck even Rick Perry could not win without Palin dragging him across the Finish Line. I see a lot of disappointed people voicing their feelings about Palin. The truth is she is the only person on the right who has been able to connect with people. So we then shout, Palin for President! Then she started making some moves that signal that she is doing exactly that; bus tour, agreed to the Undefeated documentary, IOWA, etc. All along she kept saying that she will make her decision known end of Sep/Oct. She did and we did not like it. I still do not like it. But, I noticed a change in her demeanor in the weeks leading up to that Oct 5 decision. Sarah Palin has NOT connected with people.

Palin went from a 90 percent approval rating in Alaska to (last month) an approval rating that is only 29 percent.

Nationally, she has done only slightly better.

She is more unpopular that Newt. In Alaska, Palin and Joe Miller are the bottom two politicians in popularity.

So who has she “connected” with? Her ever shrinking base of fervent supporters?

Besides them, who else?

NorCon

Polls are for cross-country and strippers smile

Haters come and go and are a minority. Press in Alaska is hard left and democrat-dominated, churning and churning the same hate-induced propaganda against Sarah day in day out.

I’d say a private individual that has 90% of the press directly hostile towards her do pretty well at 30% or probably more due to liberal pollbias.

Let Obama the old friend of domestic terrorists and radical white-hating pastors get what he deserves from a press, and see how much he will do in the polls. 20% ? Yep, around the percentage of population that are progressives..

If the press in Alaska is so hard left and democrat dominated, how was it that she had a 90 percent approval rating while in office?

To me Newt was the onlyone that provided substance to the debate. Cain fight hard to defend his 9-9-9 plan, and the others were engaged in a cat & dog fight which will take us no where. If Palin was asked for specifics, she would buckle like a cheap ironing board.

On Don’t Ask Don’t Tell- Palin tweets a quote from a l3sbian commentator making fun of conservatives. And nobody questions her.

On the Debt Deal- Palin says that freshmen Republican Tea Party members deserves a primary challenge if they support it. Two days later she says it is a “Great Victory” for the Tea Party.

So what is it?

Just like she buckled when asked about everything from the dream-act to DADT during her bustrip or how she buckled when beating a incumbent republican gov. and a former dem. gov. in Alaska.

I think this debate was staged to be like this by prople who want to discredit the opposition to the establishment. These 2 clowns should be removed as nominees so we can hear real substance from the other nominees who really care about the country. These debates are not for our entertainment nor for the press to make a big issue of. There needs to be fundamental change on a large scale to stop the country from going down the drain, not this entertaining freak show. We’re tired of all this.

Part of the problem here is the ridiculous “debate” structure used. Instead of a 2-hour forum where all topics are fair game and candidates have 60 secs to answer and 30 secs to rebut, why not organize in advance and have each debate focus on a particular issue of importance for the full 2 hours. Then, we could let candidates get into details on their positions.

BTW,notice how questions were often framed around a candidate, forcing other candidates to reference said candidate, thus giving the candidate another 30 secs of air time to respond. Cooper did it deliberately last night at the end, making sure Romney got half of the time remaining. Beware when the MSM supports a GOP candidate!

Was a little disappointed with Cain tonight in the explanation of state taxes v nat’l sales tax. I believe he was trying to say that you pay hidden taxes in the prices of goods already and you also already pay the state sales tax. 999 doesn’t address a state sales tax because it’s a federal plan. 999 will get rid of those hidden taxes in the current prices of goods (e.g. gas tax) which will cause the prices of goods to drop. We do pay for hidden taxes right now in the current prices as well as the state sales tax. So there is really no difference than what is currently going on except that the tax would be transparent to the people and the prices would be lower. I did like Newt tonight as always. He is definately the smartest person and I think he gave it to RP… Read more »

I believe Mr. Cain was referring to “embedded” taxes that would be gone. All goods and some services have taxes included in the price from raw materials to manufactured to wholesale to retail. (And in some cases more) If the corporate tax rate went from 35% down to 9% the embedded taxes would be lower on practically all goods and services. Competition then would lower the prices.

This is fleshed out in literature regarding the fair tax.

I don’t fault Cain for not explaining his plan in a 60 second window. I understand exactly how a 9% sales tax on top of a 9% corporate tax could lower the final cost to the consumer. But to illustrate, you have to identify the hidden taxes as well as the corporate rates. Then take them out, replace with 9% on the finished product and see what impact that will have on pricing. Hard to do in a minute or less.

Cain didn’t answer a very basic question. He gave a dodge instead. That doesn’t play well especially in states that have no sales tax now. Apples and oranges just doesn’t cut it.

OK, for all of you folks still angry at Gov. Palin, here’s something to think about. Over many years of debating politics and philosophy, and making a serious study of philosophy in general, I’ve noticed a major trend in people’s reactions to points of debate. Those who take an idea into themselves and let it become “who they are,” are the ones who have the most trouble handling vigorous debate well. It makes them angry, or depressed, or miserable somehow, to know that an opponent has made a good point. Doubly so when that point shakes their faith in some Very Important Idea. The trick to getting away from such feelings is to remember that we are not the same as the ideas we like. So when we argue, we don’t have to take any of the arguments personally. Those ideas, man, they have to stand up on their own.… Read more »

GB

K-Bob

K-Bob

Hard to say. She’ll have to come up with a really different approach in order to be on the ticket, somehow. So that would drive how folks respond.

But getting emotionally wrapped up in her decision is counterproductive, at best.

People forget the power of the vote as the final restraint on government. They also tend to forget their own actions are significant.

Dwelling on Governor Palin’s choice takes time and energy from more important work, as Nick pointed out.

Naval gazing won’t win this election. OWS is not an “idea” it is a radical mob that will turn ugly at the drop of a hat. They are well past the idea phase and have gotten in touch with their primal instincts.

We the people have the power to change the country. We have been lulled into this idea of “politician as savior” and we have come to depend on one man to ride in and save the day.

We have forfeited our rights and power to the ruling class believing that some how they would do the right thing. In our town we have a pro-life, crisis pregnancy center that is supported by donations from local churches. It will prevent more abortions in 1 year than Perrry, Romney, Cain, Gingrich or Bachmann will in 8 years.

They still think the Branchflower report is valid, they still want to believe that Palins emails will somehow show them how bad she is when 24.000 of them in bright colors show just the opposite.

They cannot be cured for this twisted weirdness, and will never leave their comfy designed “realities” just because facts say otherwise.

Palin v Obama…

Palin, the corruption fighter in Alaska vs. Obama, the “community organizer” in Chicago, who used the corrupt machine in Chicago for his political gain and then took the corrupt thinking to DC.

So, who’s thinking is “bright” and “deep” and whose thinking is “deep” in Chicago style corruption?

Now that the truth is clarified, who is bright, the Alaska corruption fighter, Palin, or the Chicago corruption facilitator, Obama?

Now we know why BHObama’s fundamental transformation of America is having such a negative effect in America… his “stinkin’ thinkin’ is fundamental to his attempt to “community organize” America into a collectivist commune.

YEP. And I even gave her pac money. I probably will give her pac money again because she has excellent instincts and picks solid conservative candidates.
Isn’t jealousy one of the seven deadly sins? Lose your Jealousy and you will lose your hatred of this fine lady.

Who’s your candidate?

Again, Palin ALWAYS said she was considering. She NEVER said she had made the decision.

Until she did.

Your expectations? Your problem!

Who’s your candidate?

You’re not helping him or her by wasting your time bashing Palin.

But I see why you won’t come clean about who your candidate is: Palin supporters will NEVER vote for him or her based on your over the top unreasonable bashing of Palin.

Good job.

I’m sure your candidate thanks you for your service.

(The bus tour is paid… Read more »

One person has a plan and announced it yesterday and was given very little time to discuss it tonight. Newt offered very little of substance tonight and got owned by Paul and Romney on Yucca Mountain.
Oh and Ron Paul is the one that actually offered a budget, but thanks for ignoring him and talking instead about Santorum who has no plan at all.

“at one point between her children bickering in one ear and the candidates bickering in the other ear, she wasn’t sure which was making more sense”

How can anyone hate this woman??

It’s easy: just let her dash your hopes for the country on the sharp, jagged rocks of “No, thanks”.

Sounds more like Palin Derangement Syndrome to me.
How can she disappoint you if she owed you nothing?

you should never hate anyone…particularly someone you don’t personally know. “hate” is childish.
