Please Sir, May I Have Some More? School Takes Away Kids’ Lunches, Throws Them In Trash

In Salt Lake City, Utah, dozens of children had their lunches taken from them in front of their peers and watched as school officials tossed their food in the garbage.

No soup for you! This is so very typical of the petty dictatorships that grow naturally in the fertile ground of mindless bureaucracy. It is this same type of paper-obedience that produces ridiculous results in zero-tolerance policies. When people ask what the biggest challenge is to improving education in the United States, we bring up lack of school choice, lack of properly allocated funds, imposition of common core standards, and a host of other ills. But the impact of the paper pushers must never be understated.

In education, as in so many other institutions of government, careless indifference for consequence that results from the myopia encouraged by the system eventually replaces common sense, compassion, and just plain good decision-making. And liberals think the answer is more government. It’s enough to make you want to start a food fight.

You know, if you have any.
