Question at Obama town hall: “Would you please raise my taxes?”

***UPDATED***

At Obama’s LinkedIn town hall today, Obama was asked by the host to pick someone out of the audience to ask him a question. How ironic it is that the one person Obama picks would be the one rich guy who wants Obama to raise his taxes.

Here’s the entire eight minute question and answer:

***

UPDATE: Mark Knoller tweets the following about the questioner:

The man who asked Pres Obama to raise his taxes was Doug Edwards, former Dir of Consumer Marketing & brand management for Google.

***

UPDATE(2): From the Washington Examiner:

It seems relevant to point out that this rich liberal is Doug Edwards from the Obama-friendly and regulation-friendly Google.

Edwards has given $300,000 to politicians since 2000 — every single dime to Democrats. He specifically said he wanted his higher taxes to cover Pell Grants.

That’s about 60 Pell Grants he could have provided.

Obama proves once again his idiocy in thinking he can fool the majority of Americans. He only continues to fool his 20% base.

Doug Edwards has nothing in common with the working class or the unemployed. He knows he has the option of paying more taxes voluntarily without asking. Besides, if I remember correctly, I believe congress is the only branch of the federal government that has the power to raise taxes, not the president. Regardless, if Doug Edwards wants to pay more taxes, just do it voluntarily without the partisan show. If he really wants to help the poor, he should be investing in homeless shelters and employing social workers to help rehabilitate the down and trodden and stop his vain complaining about not paying enough taxes.

No doubt about him being a plant. Very telling indeed was the blood rushing to Obama’s head as this ruse opened before us. Just watch as the camera zooms in and the bobblehead boy wonder sits in abject fear hoping it doesn’t go wrong. Whew! Then the moment of relief. Onto a scripted joke to redirect the cult assembled. Dear Leader then stutters on in to his stream of lies, and Click, I’m out of there. Sorry, I couldn’t go past two minutes.

Success didn’t come from government grants or government scholarships. It came from Google, from the private sector. How can we miss that point?

If he’s unemployed by choice, what exactly is he going to be taxed on if he has no income?

Lieberals, spending other peoples money since the dawn of time! Why don’t they just give away their own money and be happy? It is so odd they want my money and yours too. There is nothing to stop them them giving away their own cash, its simple write a cheque to the charity of your choice oh and make sure its deductible! Giving it to the government is NOT the way to solve any problems all you do is waste most of it!

Write a check, Doug, then ask the friends you have in agreement to write a check.
Then you can watch your money go down the drain. Leave me the heck alone!

I don’t need to watch it to know what a pile of hooey this is. If you want to pay more, whose stopping you?! Go ahead and pay an extra 3 or 4 hundred grand next tax time.
And keep in mind there pal, when you do volunteer to pay that extra, it’s not going to put money in my wallet for grocery day. The only thing that would do that is if my husband gets a job.

Just how stupid does this guy think we the people are? Oh wait…SOME of us proved that when we elected this abomination. Cry, then pray for our beloved country.

At the same rate, the rich already pay more. Their rate is higher. Buffet is an exception at 17.4%. Those in his income category, above $10 million/year pay an avg. of 22%. By chance its the only lower % compared to lower incomes — those earning $1-10 million pay 24%.

Buffet’s secretary doe not pay less % than him. He is flat out wrong in claiming that. He is referring to top rate, not the effective rate.

This looks like a setup to me… staged, scripted… no way was this a spontaneous, randomly chosen person whom Obama did not know beforehand.

This Doug Edwards is the classic example of the definition of a “Useful Idiot”, if setting up charitable grants for education is what he wants to do, he could do it himself a whole lot more efficiently than the government ever could.

How fake is this? A guy from Google asking to have his income taxes raised when he is living off of his investments and no longer has an income?

So write a check to the US Treasury. Why can’t liberals understand this simple concept? Treasury is more than happy to get the additional “revenue”.

Oh, right, as if the guy doesn’t have an accountant making sure he pays the least amount possible. All he has to do is not take the personal deduction to start, and then he can simply donate money to the government. If he wants to provide money for Pell grants, why not set up a trust fund for scholarships or donate to a foundation that does that? Does he really think he can’t do something with his own money better than the government can? That’s simply pathetic!

Even more pathetic is how transparent this set-up was and that some people won’t even see it for what it is but still get to vote.

I just got a $827.89 iPad2 for only $103.37 and my mom got a $1499.99 HTV for only $251.92, they are both coming tomorrow. I would be an idiot to ever pay full retail prîces at places like Walmart or Bestbuy. I sold a 37″ HTV to my boss for $600 that I only paid $78.24 for. I use GrаbPenny.сom

Why didn’t the guy just write a check for a couple million right there and hand it to Barry? Ohhh he wasn’t actually talking about his own taxes, he was speaking for everyone in his income bracket. I see.

Another leftist shill unwilling to put his money where his mouth is. Mr. Edwards is quite free to give more or indeed everything he owns to the federal government. Until Mr. Edwards does this, his pleas to pay more seem a bit hollow. He doesn’t need Obama to raise his taxes, he could do that himself if he wasn’t a flaming pile of crap hypocrite. No, Mr. Edwards needs Obama to raise everyone Else’s taxes, not his own. Put your money where your mouth is Mr. Edwards, or shut the hell up.

Who’s running the country while Obama is on his non-stop publicity tour?

While Mr. Edwards might be in a position to ask Obama to raise his taxes because he’s been “so lucky” to have lived in Silicon Valley and to have worked with a “small startup search engine” that did very, very well, other Americans will get caught up in the wide net he’s begging the IRS to cast over the rest of us. Some of us who are, truly “lucky” to still have good paying jobs, are seeing little or no raises, bonuses, or signs that we can weather the current economic environment indefinitely. But let’s keep stoking the “us and them” class warfare narrative being fed by Obama and his audience stooges. If Mr. Edwards, Warren Buffet, Gill Gates, or any other “rich fat cats” want to throw more of their capital to the Government for redistribution, have at it!! But it appears to me that the views expressed by… Read more »
