Rep. Gabrielle Giffords resigns today

After an amazing recovery, Rep. Giffords made the decision to resign from office. Newsmax reports:

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, the Arizona Democrat severely injured in during a deadly attack at a gathering of her constituents in Tucson a year ago, says she will resign from Congress this week.

Giffords says on her Facebook page that she intends to resign from Congress to concentrate on recovering from wounds suffered in an assassination attempt a little more than a year ago.

Her resignation is expected to take effect on Monday, according to officials in Washington.

The Democratic congresswoman was shot in the head during an attack in which six people were killed and a dozen were injured.

Although her recovery has seemed remarkable, she says on Facebook she has more work to do to recover, and it is best from her state if she resigns her seat in the House.

Wishing Representative Giffords and her family many blessings during this time and a speedy recovery.
