Rep. Gaetz tries to slam Gov DeSantis but gets his facts WRONG

There have been several to claim since Monday that Governor DeSantis doesn’t want to protect Trump from extradition if he gets indicted in Manhattan.

And now Rep Matt Gaetz from Florida is suggesting the same thing, accusing DeSantis of putting “every Floridian at risk who could be the subject of a false allegation”

Gaetz wrote this morning:

“If I were Governor of Florida, I would not allow any Floridian to be hauled before a Soros-backed prosecutor in a blue city over politics. I wouldn’t make an exception to not protect the President of the United States.

Ron DeSantis should be standing in the breach to stop any sort of extradition of President Trump from the state of Florida.

The fact that he’s not doing so puts every Floridian at risk who could be the subject of a false allegation.”

But this is absolutely wrong. Governor DeSantis has no say in the ‘extradition’ of someone from one state to the next in this kind of case.

In fact Twitter’s Community Notes quickly quoted from the Constitution on this matter to correct Gaetz’s tweet:

It’s sad when these guys who’ve sworn to support and defend the Constitution don’t even know what it says. Or at least they don’t bother to check before mouthing off on something like this.
