RNC says not so fast on the news that they’ve picked Jacksonville for convention

The Washington Post is reporting that the RNC has picked Jacksonville as the new city in which to hold their national convention later this year. It was going to be held in Charlotte, however the NC governor isn’t willing to make any guarantees. But the RNC is saying that today’s reporting on Jacksonville is not true, that they haven’t actually picked a site yet:

DAILY CALLER – The 2020 Republican National Convention might not be taking place in Jacksonville, according to Republican National Committee (RNC) officials.

Multiple senior RNC officials pushed back on The Washington Post’s claim that the “GOP expects to move its convention to Jacksonville” from Charlotte, North Carolina, in statements made to Daily Caller.

“WaPo’s reporting is premature,” one senior Republican official familiar with the decision explained. “We are still considering several cities and no final decision has been made.”

“Several cities are still being considered,” RNC spokesperson Steve Guest added. “No final decision has been made. Convention officials are touring Phoenix, Savannah, Dallas, and Jacksonville this week, and we have been in conversations with several other potential locations.”

RNC National Spokeswoman Elizabeth Harrington also confirmed that multiple cities were still being considered but declined to add an additional comment.

I’ve been seeing reports around this morning from other sites declaring Jacksonville to be the place of the convention, so I wanted to make sure you knew it wasn’t true.

In unrelated news, Trump hasn’t been tweeting very much this morning. Perhaps after yesterday’s tweet, which we’ll be talking about in the next post, someone finally got through to him?
