TMZ caught up with Roger Stone today and asked him about the movement to impeach Trump. Stone answered the question, pointing out that if they even try to impeach Trump there will be violence. Stone says that both sides are ‘armed’ and that the people won’t stand for impeachment:
Stone argues that any politician that votes for impeachment would be endangering their lives, and that if Trump is impeached he predicts there would be a civil war.
Stone makes sure to point out that he’s not advocating violence, but just predicting it.
Normally I don’t give a flying monkey about anything that Stone says, but part of me feels there’s at least a kernel of truth to what he’s saying.
As much as I dislike some of the things Trump has said and done, in the current divisive environment, impeachment without a legitimate crime would likely be met with a lot of hostility. Even with a legitimate crime this might be true.
There are plenty of agitators already out there who don’t need much motivation to try and create havoc. This would certainly be enough to get many more in the streets and they would probably clash with the hoards of people celebrating.
I don’t know about a civil war, per se, but I do think there’d be violence in many areas of the country.
So I think Stone isn’t necessarily wrong on this, even if he is a putz.
