Roseanne came back to Twitter last night after originally announcing that she had quit. And she was very apologetic about what she said.
She issued this formal apology but made a few others to Valerie Jarrett as well:

@ValerieJarrett I want to apologize to you. I am very sorry to have hurt you. I hope you can accept this sincere apology!

@ValerieJarrett i don't know if u saw it, but I wanted2 apologize to u 4 hurting and upsetting u with an insensitive & tasteless tweet. I am truly sorry-my whole life has been about fighting racism. I made a terrible mistake wh caused hundreds of ppl 2 lose their jobs. so sorry!

She made clear to people that she screwed up and they shouldn’t defend her losing her show. What she really regrets is being labeled a racist:
thanks for supporting me! I gave them the weapon to kill me-I was not equipped to take all the heat. I cracked & made a stupid insensitive joke-it's my fault.

She also announced that Viacom pulled all of her old Roseanne shows off TV:
In one of her tweets, she said she thought Jarrett was Jewish and Persian:
i honestly thought she was Jewish and Persian-ignorant of me for sure, but...i did.

In other words, she wasn’t trying to be racist. I can understand that as I didn’t know Jarret was black either. I knew she was said to be Iranian, but given her light complexion I had no idea.
What I really liked about Roseanne’s apology is that she noted that many hardworking people lost their jobs because of her mistake. You can quibble about that being ABC’s decision, but I really like that she acknowledged that. I thought her apology was classy.
Also ABC truly sucks. I was never a fan of her show, to be honest, but ABC didn’t even try and resolve this for the sake of the show or the people working on the show. They just jumped on the outrage bandwagon and cut her loose. And everyone else followed, including her talent agency and Viacom.
