Saw this item pop up this morning on Twitter. Apparently, a loosely-regulated (but legal) surrogacy industry exists in Russia, but as you can see in this news clip the arrangement doesn’t always work out as planned. What struck me most about this story is how nonchalant some prospective parents are about aborting their own unborn child if he or she doesn’t meet their standards – or maybe, they just want the back-up surrogate’s twins instead. So heartbreaking.
I don’t know, the whole idea of surrogacy is bizarre at best, if you ask me. At worst, it’s another form of human trafficking.
