Russian-linked software company says NORTH KOREA might be behind global cyber-attack

There is a breathless breaking news item that just hit the shuddering interwebs:

Interesting, isn’t it? And it would make sense that the Norks would do this right as they’re continuing their missile testing. BUT, there’s a yuge caveat. And it’s in Cyrillic.

As I was reminded by Podcast-Jessica, Kaspersky has some deep Russian ties:

U.S. intelligence chiefs have announced they are reviewing the government’s use of Kaspersky Lab software over concerns the Kremlin may use the Moscow-based company to infiltrate or infect U.S. computer networks. Kaspersky specializes in cybersecurity and anti-virus protection. At a Senate committee Thursday, National Security Agency Director Mike Rogers said he was “personally involved” in the review, though he gave no further details. Defense Intelligence Agency Director Vincent Stewart said that while his agency did not use Kaspersky software, there are concerns that independent contractors may use software from the Russian company. The heads of the NSA, FBI, CIA, and DIA all said they would not feel comfortable using Kaspersky software in the current political climate.

SO would Russia have a motive to mislead us? YES they would – because the global cyber-attack is said to have used tools from the recent NSA hackery. Tools that were revealed by…. WIKILEAKS. Dun DUNN DUNN!!!

That means that the Russkies might possibly be scapegoating the Norks in order to cover up their own tracks and culpability in the hacking of the NSA.

Or I could be completely wrong and it really was the Norks.

Oh what a tangled web we weave….
