SNL has been pretty terribly unfunny because they’re looking for applause, not laughs, but but but the insanity out of the Jussie Smollett case was SO BAD, that they were forced to write something funny.
And it’s really hilarious:
Wow. I love it, it actually made me laugh. It’s sad that there are bright spots like this that show SNL really could do something great, but instead they chose to be activists and ruin it.
They also did one on the admissions scandal, but of course, it was cut from the show for time. Here it is, it’s pretty predicable once you get the premise, but there are two parts I found hilarious:
I thought the gay Chiefs logo was uproarious, and the ending was pretty well written.
But way on the other end of the spectrum is this cold open:
Yeah, except for the Rudy Giuliani thing, it was all going for applause, not for actual laughs.
Then there’s Cecily Strong’s very funny impersonation of Jeanine Pirro:
