Steve King votes FOR his own rebuke in Congress… [VIDEO]

The House overwhelmingly rebuked Steve King today by a vote of 424-1.

I know what you’re thinking, that the one vote against was Steve King — but it wasn’t. He actually voted for his own rebuke because he said he agreed with the language in it condemning White Supremacy:

DAILY MAIL – Republican Congressman Steve King voted Tuesday for a resolution condemning himself for comments he made about white nationalism and white supremacy.

‘I agree with every word that you have put in this,’ King told Democratic lawmaker James Clyburn, who sponsored the resolution, in a speech on the House floor shortly before the vote.

‘So I want to ask my colleagues on both sides of the aisle let’s vote for this resolution. I’m putting up a yes on the board here because what you say is true, is right and is just,’ he added.

The final vote was 424 yeas and one vote against it.

Here’s video of part of King’s speech on the House floor where he said he would vote for it:

I gotta say I tend to be on the side of giving King the benefit of the doubt here that his comments were mischaracterized by the NY Times. And honestly, I hate to see the pile-on by Republicans and Democrats together.

But that said, I do think he should have been more forceful on the point of mischaracterization from the beginning. I don’t think he handled it as good as he should have, but really, the whole thing stinks to me.
