A stunned Twitter responded this morning to Trump’s defense of waiting to fire Omarosa despite General Kelly’s advice that she was a loser and nothing but problems:

So her primary qualification for a job in your administration is that she said great things about you? https://t.co/ZhhYK8tYIE

In which the President of the United States says he kept a, "vicious, but not smart" grifter on his staff, at public expense, because said grifrter "only said GREAT things about" him. https://t.co/LJtXHixg08

You made a HORRIBLE decision to hire #Omarosa in the first place.

You have MANY people working hard for you that you NEVER acknowledge and you promoted a bottom-feeding traitor? #BadDecision#TeamKJ https://t.co/4DaPBRvEGn
A walking, talking limbic system that divides the world into people who say great things about him, and liarshttps://t.co/6OlAqbc3io

So many great thing about this tweet. The lack of responsibility. The tears. But my favorite thing is the “vicious, but not smart” - as though vicious is an accolade. https://t.co/H6iYK5nfae

Oh man this tweet is like “Godfather II.” It’s even better than the original. So she could be a nightmare on all levels but so long as she said nice things about Trump she was the bees knees. https://t.co/4L9Zy0ygwL

So an incompetent can keep a high-level @WhiteHouse job simply by saying nice things about the president? https://t.co/k1wNQc9GjM

“Stunned” may be overstating it a little, but I think people are honestly surprised that Trump admitted such a thing publicly like this. Of course we’ve always known that he loves it when people say nice things about him and that he values loyalty above all things. But to admit that he kept Omarosa on because she said “great” things about him is pretty amazing.
Also, it opens him up to manipulation from people working for him and working with him. All they have to do is keep inflating his ego and he’ll ignore whatever bad stuff they are doing apparently.
It’s a good thing Trump gave Kelly the ultimate decision on these on the hiring and firing of White House staffers, because otherwise Omarosa might still be working there.
Speaking of manipulation, what about world affairs? Did he just make himself an easy mark for our enemies?
