STUPID: Debate commission wants to give moderator ability to turn off microphones, but RNC says NOPE

Since Tuesday night’s debate, the commission that runs them is now wanting to give the moderator the ability to turn off a candidate’s microphone:

NY POST – The presidential debate commission is considering giving the moderator the opportunity to cut a candidate’s mic at the next matchup between President Trump and Joe Biden, it was revealed Wednesday.

The debate commission announced that it will adopt changes in order to avoid a repeat of Tuesday night’s clash between the candidates, which has been referred to as a “dumpster fire” and a “sh–storm.”

The Associated Press reported that one change being discussed is giving the moderator the ability to cut off the microphone of one of the debate participants while his opponent is talking.

This is a horrendous idea. If they really want a debate to turn into a dumpster fire, start cutting microphones and see what happens.

The RNC and the Trump campaign is already dead set against the idea, and they should be:

THE HILL – The Republican National Committee and Trump campaign are signaling they will oppose changes to the presidential debate structure after the nonpartisan commission that manages the events said it is exploring potential adjustments following the chaotic contest in Cleveland.

Appearing on Fox News, Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel said that the commission should not make any adjustments without the support of both campaigns and that the rules should not be changed “in the middle of the campaign,” after both sides agreed to specific parameters.

McDaniel also suggested that the Commission on Presidential Debates was pursuing changes in order to assist Democratic nominee Joe Biden, arguing that the former vice president “got away” without answering tough questions at the first debate.

“I hope the Committee on Presidential Debates does not change the rules to once again protect Joe Biden from answering to the American people,” McDaniel said.

McDaniel indicated she does not support a change that would see either candidates’ microphone cut off if they break the rules after President Trump repeatedly interrupted moderator Chris Wallace and Biden during Tuesday night’s debate.

“I don’t think you should be changing the rules that they have agreed to and I do not think this commission has the right to just arbitrarily change rules without talking to both candidates and getting agreement and input from both sides,” McDaniel said when asked if she would support such a change.

You all know that I wasn’t pleased with Trump’s bullying the other night, but the last thing I want to see is the moderator having the power to silence candidates. If anything we need much less moderator and more back and forth between the candidates. Whatever happens needs stand on its own without a moderator having too much control.

If they want to insist on turning off microphones, then both candidates need to bring a bull horn to make sure they are heard. Then they’ll have a real dumpster fire of a debate. 😂😂😂
